I will be purchasing my own Nook in March for my birthday. Do I need a charging cable or does that come with the Nook?

Should I also purchase a cover and frame or do I just need the cover since it will be traveling on the airplane with it, a lot?

Any other accessory-type items I will need? I plan to only use my Nook for reading since I will be getting an IPOD later next year.

Your nook will come with the charger and a USB cable. The USB plugs into the charger.

I would buy a cover or a frame and definitely a screen protector. I have not traveled with mine yet and just got a cover and light.

I love, love, love my nook. So far, I have only borrowed books from the library, but plan to purchase one this weekend.

I received my NOOK for Christmas. I'm no means an expert.

It does come with a charger that also is USB cord. One of the best inventions in my mind and wish apple would do the same.

I only have a cover for mine that I purchased at B&N for $40. It looks like a hot pink leather envelope but I think it's cute.

You might want to take a cloth with you to clean off the finger prints. I noticed they show easily.

Tonight I'm downloading my first library books. I even managed all on my own. Well maybe since I haven't managed to get it to my nook yet.

Enjoy the purchase.

as the PPs have said, your nook will come with a usb cable/charger. i would definitely get a cover. i've had my nook almost a week now, and i really wish i had a cover. i'm going to request one for my birthday. i don't see a need for a screen protector, but if you're going to be reading planes, particularly long flights, you might want a clip on reading light. i got one for DD to use with her nook and it's very handy.

I don't know if you want to download music and/or videos but the Nook doesn't come with headphones. I have been using my ipod earbuds and they work fine. If you're getting the Nookcolor you won't need a light as it is backlit rather than e-ink. I'm enjoying my Nookcolor immensely so far.

I plan on getting a leather book-fold cover and screen protectors for mine, so that I can carry it in my purse without worrying about it coming into contact with some deadly killer object such as my car keys. ;)

Note that the covers on the B&N site vary in terms of their utility, and some of them seem specifically made for frequent fliers. They vary from the envelope style (which benefits from also using a frame or back), to book-folds with no pockets, with one flat pocket, with two flat pockets, or what I think of as the "frequent flier" version, which has large enough pockets to hold the charger and headphones. These are the priciest that they have, but I think that if I were still a frequent flier, I'd invest for the convenience of being able to store the wires right there. The buckram covers are the least expensive, but they are not as forgiving of the oils in your hands as leather will be.

I'm also going to get a capacitive stylus; the Pogo is supposed to be a good one. I want it for the browser function; it is rather a PITA to keep having to enlarge the screen to see the next page of my inbox when reading my mail. (If you enlarge when browsing and then change pages, it reverts, so you have to enlarge it again for every page.)

DH gave me the CN for Xmas, so the question is ... can I successfully hint him into giving me my coveted accessories for my birthday (which is in January .. he thinks that it is completely ridiculous that I have THREE command performance gift-giving occasions within a span of 7 weeks: Xmas, birthday, and Valentine's Day. Honestly, I suspect that he's counting on using the Nook and various items related to it to cover every holiday for at least the next two years.)

I got a book style cover for mine (Lily Pulitzer one from BN website) for Christmas. I'm also going to buy a Borsa Bella bag to put the Nook+cover in so I can carry my charger and keep it safe when I travel.
