I am so happy that I finally got to open my Nook ... I really like it so far but I am having an issue with something that seems like it should be so simple. I'm going to ask about it here so I can figure out if it is an issue with my Nook or the operator(I'm thinking operator error:confused:)Anyway, I can only seem to turn the pages with the side buttons. The touch pad is working for everything else but I can't seem to be able to swipe the touch pad to turn the pages. Is there some kind of setting I am missing or could I possibly be doing it wrong(how bad would that be???:scared1:) Or could it be a defect with the machine? I would appreciate any input...thanks!

as far as i know, and i'm just learning the nook myself, so i could be mistaken, the pages can only be turned with the side buttons, not the touch pad.

First you have to let it go idle (the touch pad) then you have to quick swipe to either side. It took me a while to get the hang of it. I prefer the buttons.

I will try that, thanks! When I was trying to make a decision which to get my husband kept making a big deal about the touch pad. It didn't really matter to me so I find it ironic that I can't seem to operate it and would be fine with just using the side buttons. He keeps asking me why I am not swiping the pad and I don't have the heart to tell him I can't seem to master it;)

Keep at it. It took me a while also. Make sure that the touch screen is dark and swipe across the entire screen.

Also, use a light touch. Don't jab at it. I watched my dad and mom trying to deal with a Garmin touch screen yesterday and realized that they both were jabbing it somehow thinking that hitting it harder made it work better. IT DOESN'T!;)

Touch screen page turns were hit or miss for me. Of course I'm not a big fan of the Nooks touch screen period; it drove me absolutely bonkers until I just gave up on it and gave it to a friend for Christmas.

DD swipes the touchpad but I just use the sides. I do love the touchpad for other reasons but not as a page turner. Good luck. Honestly, I think e-readers are a wonderful invention! I am so happy with mine.

My sister got a Kindle yesterday. I know she will love it. I wish she had gotten a Nook also because then we could share books as we like to read the same type of books. I do thnk she will really enjoy it although she is a bit cheap when it comes to buying books, she is a library nut when it comes to reading.

Enjoy your Nook, OP!

Thanks to everyone for your input...it's really helpful I was feeling like quite the dummy since it seems like such a simple concept;)

Can someone help with how to get an ebook from my library onto my nook?

Also, at least with the color, you can simply tap the side of the screen to move to the next page. I'm bad at the swipe movement to turn it as I end up turning multiple pages (or going forward a page and then back a page).

not sure how your library does it, but ours has a link where you can download Adobe Digital Edition to your computer. Then when you find a book at your library that is available you have to download it to the Adobe program, attach your Nook to your computer and then drag the book to the Nook in the program.

i feel like an idiot cause i just sat here for HOURS reading the user guide on my computer and fiddling with the device, wondering why I don't seem to have some of the "stuff" and I just realized I don't have the latest update and it wouldn't download via Wifi, so I had to manually do it. I'm a techie dumb dumb, so hopefully I'll get to reading here one of these days :lmao:

I've had my Nook for awhile now, but I just tried to sideload my first library book today. With absolutely no success.

I can drag it to the Nook, and it'll show up in the Nook folder, but it isn't on the Nook itself. When I try to do it a second time, it tells me that it's already there. I worked at it for so long (I even deleted the book, and reinstalled both it, and Adobe Digital), it started making me angry, so I said to heck with it and gave up.

Maybe when you look at my Library it might be in the My documents which are on a separate page.

Library books will show up in your "MY DOCUMENTS" file instead of your nook library .

Took me a few to figure that out as well...

As others have said, your library book will be in "My Documents" on your Nook. Now there may be another problem, where it is in "My Documents" but you can't open it. That's what happened to me. If you need the fix, let me know.

I got my book onto my nook found it in documents without a problem. I have no clue how I got it over since a nook folder didn't show up anywhere. I'm so confused with it. But I say I do like reading on it. It's easier to hold than a paperback. I like to lay on the couch and read, I have it propped on my small pillow and I no long fight with the pages. :goodvibes

Santa had my Nook wrapped up since Black Friday, so I was so glad to finally be able to open it.

Other relatives gave me some B&N gift cards, so I've got close to $100 in my account now. Of course, now I can't decide what to read first. :rotfl:

Last night, as our blizzard was underway, it was awesome to just sit with the nook and read for a few hours. Even better was being able to switch to another book without having to move out from under my blanket. :thumbsup2

As a huge book person, I had always been a bit skeptical about missing out on having a "real" book in my hands, but, so far, the Nook has been top notch. This week I'm off to re-up my library membership and borrow some eBooks.
