Nook or Kindle, read on

And I decided on a Kindle. Now I'm nervous.

The Nook hasn't arrived yet, the production is behind. Maybe I should cancel...ACK

Rumor has it that Apple is working on what can best be described as a large/Kindle/Nook sized iPod touch - geared at the eBook market. If this is the case, I expect that it will seriously hinder the Kindle/Nook/eReader market.

I have used the Kindle app as well as the "Classics" app for reading on my iPod, and have been pleased with the results. Assuming it is the same app/software, it will be much more book like on a larger screen.

Tammy, do you mean you decided on a Nook?

Because if you decided on a Kindle you have nothing to be nervous about - it's a great product and you will love it.

I was also torn between the two and decided a few weeks ago on the Kindle.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I just read the article in the OP and I'm so glad I went with it! I have had no issues at all!:lovestruc :cloud9:

Rumors of the Apple Tablet have been around for years now. It may release next year but then again, if nobody ever buys anything else again because the Apple Tablet may do the same thing, we could all be sitting and waiting for years to come.

WSJ, NYT and a couple of other major tech sources are reporting major bugs and crashes on the nook. It is looking like they released way too soon.

When I'm interested in a new gadget like this I like to wait a while after it comes out to purchase it. I want to hear what other people have to say about it, I want the first bugs to be fixed, etc. With the Nook, nobody really has it yet. I did play with one last week and my thoughts on it are reflected in the article in my original post. Having said all that I did get the iPod Touch like 2 months after it came out because that is one awesome gadget:thumbsup2 Yea you can call me a tech geek:love:

Wow! That's a slam!!! I was going to put one of these eReaders on my Christmas card list. But right now I'm happy with the Kindle for PC on my laptop.

I just got my Kindle 2 on Wed. My Dad knew I was so anxious to use it, he gave it to me early. I absolutely love it!!
I was reading on the Kindleboards about the comment Steve Jobs made about EReaders. Paraphrasing but Jobs said they would never catch on and Apple would never make one so even though we love our Apples- we will not be buying an Apple one anytime soon.

I read this review this morning. I was quite set on the Nook. I have been upset by the way they keep changing the release date. There have been three separate dates they were supposed to be in the stores on a limited basis. My closest store said they would have them this past Monday for sure. I took off work so I could go there early to try to test and purchase one. They put it off again with another excuse. This review is kind of the final straw. Ill be ordering the Kindle this weekend. Or I should say dh is ordering it for my gift.

They both have their pros and cons. Since the Nook is new, it will have some bugs to fix, as most new gadgets do. Once the bugs are out next month, reviews say the Nook may still trump the Kindle. Either way, I don't think either of them are bad choices. I wouldn't buy the Nook now with it being so new anyway. Waiting a while is best. Time will tell. Also, there could be some price wars in the future if they are truly equal with pros and cons, which will help drive down the price by this summer <hopeful>.

Does anyone have the Sony e-reader? Thoughts/pros/cons/comparisons with Kindle and Nook?

Shhhhhhhh.................. I ordered DH a Kindle for Christmas. It is in transit now.

Does anyone have the Sony e-reader? Thoughts/pros/cons/comparisons with Kindle and Nook?

I have the Sony e-reader (PRS-505, now discontinued). I got it in January when I was looking for an e-reader to bring on a trip to New Zealand and Australia. Kindle was out of stock so I went with the Sony. I absolutely love it!!!!

The lack of wireless connectivity doesn't bother me at all. I don't mind transferring titles from my computer via USB. My favorite feature at the moment is the ability to borrow pdf and e-pub ebooks from my library -- up to 6 titles at a time that simply expire out after the lending period (3 weeks max). Sure the library's collection is pretty small, but I still haven't yet run out of titles to borrow off my wishlist. If I want something specific, I buy it.

I've heard that the e-ink displays on e-readers with touchscreens aren't as crisp as on those without touchscreen features. Mine doesn't have touchscreen and I find the display is very clear and very easy on my eyes. I have no problem reading for a few hours straight on a flight.

I've always been an avid reader and while it is indeed a different experience from having a physical book in hand, I find many advantages to my e-reader over traditional print especially for travel and my work commute. I frequently dine solo and it's nice to be able to increase the font for easier reading in a dimly lit restaurant. Also, I can fold over the back cover and it lies compactly nice and flat for mostly hands-free reading. I don't have to travel with multiple books to cover the duration of my trip. I don't have to worry about carrying along an extra book with me as I approach the end of another book. I can have several books going at once with "bookmarks" saved on each.

Can you tell I'm absolutely hooked on my Reader?
