Nook Color

I don't find the battery life that short for reading at all, but then, I actually power mine completely down when I'm not reading. Currently I'm 10 reading hours into a charge, using it on the Night setting, and it's only about half-down. Turning off the wifi conserves the battery, too, because that does draw a lot of power.
I pretty much only read library books on it, and that is my peeve with it -- only the purchased books show up on the main menu. For library books you have to go down to Files, then the Adobe folder, and deal with the abbreviated file names under the plain blue block icons.

I bought the Minimal Trifold cover, and I love that. The best thing about it for me is that I like to read in bed, but need to lie on my side to do it because DH will wake up if there is any light at all reaching his face. With the trifold, I can make an easel and prop the Nook on the mattress so that I only need one hand to flip the pages.

PS: One other little peeve; the wifi settings will not remember your network security key if you turn the wifi off while the Nook is powered up. My cover has pockets on it, so I wrote the key on a card and tucked it inside, but it's a PITA to have to re-enter it so often.

From B&N's website:

Read for up to 8 hours***** without recharging with wireless off

***** Battery life depends on device settings, usage, and many other factors. Battery tests are conducted using specific units; actual results may vary.

It's great that your Nook battery life is longer than what B&N predicted but that doesn't change the fact that it will need charged way sooner than a a regular Nook. If you get 20 hours, that is still a lot less than the 10 days that they predict for the regular Nook.

Oh, it finds the network just fine, but asks again for the security key before you can access it. None of the public places you mentioned are keyed networks, so it doesn't happen with those; only the key-secured ones that I use at home and at the office.

I still don't understand why you have that happening. Our's at home is a secured keyed network and I do not have to enter anything since setting it up. I set it up and allowed it in my network. Entered in the MAC address into my router so that my router will accept it. Did you do have to do that?

No one can have a computer sign onto my internet here at home unless I enter them into my router's allowed MAC list. Hmmm, still trying to figure out what is causing you to have to enter it each time. That is the only thing I can come up with. Hope someone else can help.

Well, yes, but what is a day? Measuring a "day" depends on how much you actually read. My 10 hours has been spread over 7 days so far, and I've still got 50% power to go. No, it hasn't been powered up all that time, but why would it need to be, at times when I'm not using it at all? I'm getting at least 10 days of use out of that charge, in absolute terms.
It's a back-lit device; of course it will use a fair amount of power; I'm good with that tradeoff.

I guess I just don't see what the issue is if the battery life that one is getting is meeting one's expectations. My baseline is that charging a wireless device about once a week is pretty normal; I'm used to that with my cell phone. Any time that I get over and above I consider lagniappe.

The OP asked for thoughts on Color vs 3g. It is a fact that the expected battery life between the 2 is vastly different. I was simply pointing that out in response to her post.

I just got the Nook Color and so far I totally  it.
I have had no problems with eye strain at all.
The color with the magazines is just amazing.

have you considered a pandigital novel? My DH got me one for xmas and I love it! It is set up with barnes and noble so you just shop for nooik books the same as with the nook. It is color as well. I can also go online and check email or surf the web if I want to. it was alot cheaper than the nook color. I think i was on sale at best buy for $139.00
