After months DH has discovered my Kindle. ;) He is considering getting one for himself but I am wondering if it would be a good idea for him to have the Nook. There are some publishing companies that do not participate in Kindle, MacMillan for one. Any thoughts?

My fiancé and I both have Kindles. I didn't much like the interface of the Nook. I love my Kindle though.

DH bought my dd and me Nooks last Sunday. I'm loving it.

I have a Sony which I love but am considering an ereader for my dd and I think I'm going with the Nook because of the ability to borrow from the library. (You can do that with the Sony but I want dd to have Wi-Fi) With the way she goes through books, I'd be broke if I had to buy them all. I also don't like the look of the keyboard on the Kindle, especially if its not something that you would be using often.

You can also share books on a Nook for 14 days. Neat feature. :)

the 149. Nook has Wi-Fi. the 199. Nook has 3G. We decided to go with just the WiFi. However, the 3G would be nice but we figured we really would be fine with WiFi.

Do you foresee reading any of the same books as your DH? If you purchase a Kindle, you can add him to your Kindle account so that all books can be shared and time limits do not apply. My DH, mom and I are all on the same account and it works out very well. Also, I believe the issues with the publishing companies and Amazon have been laid to rest. I have been downloading MacMillan books to my Kindle frequently. There was a time period earlier this year when they were not available, but it is currently not an issue. :)

Yes - this is no longer true these are available on Kindle :goodvibes

Also does your DH read the same books as you? You can share books with no limit if you are on the same account. I purchased my mom a Kindle for her birthday for this feature. Works great!

Dawn, I think your DH would love an Ipad!!!! He can do all his reading but if he wants a break from reading, then he can easily search the Internet or even read his email.
I love my Ipad!!!! Greatest little invention!!!!

I thought about getting a Nook when the price went down but I really can't get past the horrible user interface; my Kindle is so much easier to use I think I would get pissed off at the Nook really fast.

Besides, my library has no e-book selection at the moment and I don't feel like paying for a membership at one of the libraries that do have a selection. If my library ever does start getting e-books I might have to check out the new Sony e-readers or the Kobo to see how they work.

My Kindle 3 came last week and I am in love with it!

nook and Kindle (as well as the new Sony models) are now both available at Best Buy. Have him go to the store and see which he prefers. There are no publisher/retailer disputes in the US that I'm aware of although all the stores have had their fusses with a Publisher or two and I expect those to continue as contracts come up for renewal for all retailers.

Right now Amazon has more books available than the nook, although they both have all the NY Publishing house releases.

That's good news.

There was a review in today's Hftd Courant and Kindle came out ahead of the Nook. The Nook's color displays at the bottom of the "page" were deemed distracting. I really like my Kindle.

What's the difference between Kindle Two and Three?

Better contrast, hold more books, longer battery life, a little smaller and slightly different button layout. It also comes in the graphite color as well as white.

I just bought my K2 at the end of December and I haven't seen anything that makes me feel like I need to upgrade to a K3 right away. Though I do kinda like the new covers that come with an integrated light that charges from your Kindle rather than having to put batteries in.

The Kindle 3 also has two different connectivity options. They are the $139 wi-fi only version and the $189 wi-fi plus 3G. The Kindle 2 is 3G only. The Kindle 3 also has global connectivity. The early versions of the Kindle 2 were US only while the later models were global. The contrast difference is noticeable. My mother just got the Kindle 3 and the screen is incredibly sharp.:thumbsup2
