Noob question about ADRs and CRT specifically

Hello all -- Our trip isn't until November, and I see that you can now only make ressies 90 days out, but I do have some questions since I've never dealt with ADR before.

Our entire party will be 7 people and we want to try CRT for an early breakfast. At this point we aren't sure if everyone in our party will want to participate.

Should we make reservations for 7 at the 90-day mark and then call back to "downsize" if necessary? Are there penalties of any kind? Would we have to cancel entirely and start over to rebook a smaller party?

Next question: we are really thinking this would be a fun girls morning out. If we set up the guys for a "Behind the Steam Trains" tour at the same time, should the timing of each work out about the same? How long does breakfast at CRT usually take?

I'm sure I'll have many more questions as our trip approaches. Thanks for the help!

I am pretty sure that you can not downsize your ADR. You must cancel and rebook and there may not be a table available for your new number of dinners. And I think that if you just show up with less people, you are still charged for all 7 (you are required to prepay when you make the reservation) I am not sure about the timing/ tour. Maybe someone else can help with that!

Scope out your party in advance to see what backup plans they are open with. I don't they keep as many large party tables as they do smaller parties, and these fill up very quickly. It might be that they only have lunch by the time your call gets through. And set your alarm to be on the phone at 7 AM eastern time!

I would see who wants to go and only book those. That place is really hard to get into and you don't need added issues with trying to downsize later.

Thanks for the help everyone. I wasn't aware that the CRT required an upfront payment in full at the time of reservation so that answers our question! It will be a girls-only adventure I think.

It does include tax and tip - so no out of pocket the day of your visit!

Great point, Mona, thanks!!!!

This stinkin' trip is seven months away but I'm researching like it's tomorrow. :hippie:

Hi. I had res. for 4 and wanted to add one. The ADR person could not do this without cancelling my original and THEN trying to get a new res., so I did nothing. From what ppl have told me, adding on at the podium at CRT is probably a no go too. I told DS she can sit on a bench and eat a hotdog while I take the children to CRT :);):rotfl2:

I thought we could still do this adr at 180 days but just got off the phone with cm who said you could only do this adr at 90 days. Has anyone else heard this? I know all the other rest's went to 90 days.

Just to clarify: only CRT and a couple other venues require full upfront payment when the ressie is made, is that correct? All other ADRs for the parks and resorts ('Ohana or Le Cellier for example) are just reserving you a table for your visit, which you can change and even cancel without penalty? But all of these are 90 days out. Right? Or no ....

I have another question about CRT.

I was reading AllEarsNet, and they say tipping and taxes are extra for CRT.

So when you make your reservation, you will be charged a total of the meal price (according to AllEars, Adults $34.99) plus tax and a 18% tip?

Or is that statement wrong and the Adults $34.99 includes tax and tip?

Thanks.

Everything is 90 days.

Correct.

Tax and tip are included. So is the photo package.

Tax and tip are added to the meal prices. DH and I booked Lunch in June and it totaled $101.54 for 2 meals, taxes and gratuity, which is prepaid when you book, so that when you have your meal, everything is "included" because it's prepaid.

I had a resv. for a party of 6, and just called to downsize to a party of 3 and had no problem and kept the same resv. number.

So, is the CRT really worth it? And is breakfast better than lunch?
Also, I am sure this has been discussed, I can't find it though....If on the dining plan (free) how does it work w/ reservations and the charge? I do know it's 2 credits. Thanks!

"Worth it" is subjective.

I thought it was worthwhile to eat there once, but I doubt we'll eat there again.

We had lunch and I thought it was really good. The Major Domo's pie was awesome. I would definitely rather have lunch than breakfast.

They require a credit card to hold the reservation, but they will only charge it if you don't show up.

Why do you say that?

We are hoping to get an early breakfast for two reasons: so we can get a jump-start on the day, and so we can send the boys to the Steam Trains tour at the same time.

We aren't big breakfast eaters. Also, lunch just seems like a better value to me.

I will say that an early ADR doesn't necessarily give you a jump on the day. We had and 8:05 ADR at the Crystal Palace and we weren't done until about 9:15 (we had to wait for Eeyore.)
