Hi! We are doing the 3 night Wonder May 1st.

Disney says all staterooms are nonsmoking, except on the verandas. Has anyone had any trouble with their nonsmoking room smelling like a smoking room?
As non smokers, we are very sensitive to cigarette smoke, even lingering remnants of it. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks!

Yes, I wrote about this before. On our first 7 night, we had a balcony. The man right next to us was smoking the most disgusting foul something or other...it wasn't ciggies (which I don't like) or pipes which aren't bad. I have never smelled anything like it. Anyway, as bad as the constant acrid stench was, what was worse was the elderly man had the most loud rattly phlegmy choking cough. All the time! My DH had had heart surgery 8 months before and spent quite some time in the ICU. I swear, it reminded me of being back there with all the death sounds. YIKES!! We almost never used the balcony bcs of the smell, and then the awful noise. I swear it sounded like he was dying - you would sit there and wait for the choking to stop, and wait for a thump to call for help.

The poor man never left his balcony either it seemed...I have often wondered if he was on his last legs and his family just let him sit there and smoke all day.

Everyone - up and down the side - complained, but they never did anything. Our room steward told us everyone he was taking care of wsa really mad about this.

Anyhoo - there was a really bright side to this. We realized, that for that trip, a balcony had been a complete waste of money. Next trip we downgraded to a porthole room, and we have even had an inside stateroom. I was happy to have more privacy. But, for the Panama Canal tour, we are getting a balcony. Hopefully we will be lucky and not have the death smoker next to us. I wish DCL would monitor this - it sure seems after the Princess fire that they would be concerned about safety. There are always lots of smokers in the cigar area of Cove Cafe - seems easier to monitor to me. :confused3

We have never had an issue with it, but I have read some people have. All though you can't smoke in the stateroom, people can smoke on the verandah & if they leave the door open all the smoke sucks right into the room.

We had a smoker next door to us and every time we opened the verandah door he would be smoking and the smoke would come into our room. It probably wouldn't have been bad, but my SO managed to get sick and was coughing horrible and it made it 10 times worse for him with his bronchitis. That was his first cruise and I was sure that experience would turn him off to cruising but luckily it didn't, we just stick to the porthole rooms!

We had the same problem on our first cruise. We had smokers on both sides of us, so it seemed like every time we went out there, someone was smoking. I originally booked the balcony because I get seasick and thought the fresh air would help, but the smoke smell wafting into our room made the situation much worse. As the posters before me mentioned, it only saved me money in the long run, because for our last cruise we booked a port hole cabin instead. I won't ever pay the money for a balcony again unless it's guaranteed non-smoking.
