I have read the advice on documents required for non-US citizens. This is not a problem as in Europe we are pretty much accustomed to travelling with our passports - and my 3 year old daughter has already travelled to the US on her own passport.

My question concerns Disney holding the passports once we board. My understanding is that they hold non-US passports and return them on day of disembarkation. Apparently they will photocopy them so that one can get off at ports with photo ID. However what if we want to travel from St Thomas to St John or from St Martins to Anguilla? It seems pretty clear that non-US citizens require a full passport to travel between these islands. I doubt that a photocopy would be sufficient.

Can we get Disney to release our passports for excursions?

Thanks from the UK!

No. As a Canadian, we always have had our passports taken as well. We carry our drivers license as our photo ID as well as our ship card. (On Carnival they have pictures on these). We have taken an excursion from St Thomas to St. John. These islands are used to cruise passengers. You'll be find. If necessary, they(police etc) would accompany you back to the ship.

You aren't crossing any international borders when you go from St. Thomas to St. John, so the documentation question is a moot one in that case.

It is a valid question, however, for visitors to St. Maarten who wish to visit Anguilla. That is an international border crossing that normally requires the presentation of a passport. I'd emailed somebody at the Anguilla government several months ago if they could/would make exceptions for non-U.S. passengers arriving by cruise ship, but I never got a reply. Since my unanswered email, Disney has added a DCL-sponsored excursion to Anguilla for a Dolphin experience. I was rather curious whether they would allow non-U.S. passengers to book this excursion due to the documentation issue, but I hadn't bothered to ask them. I believe I will ask them now. I'll report back with the response I receive.
