I remember a few years back when my dad had volunteered to work on Thanksgiving. That same day I was a balloon handler in the Thanksgiving Day Parade, so after the parade I found my mom and sisters and we met my dad at the hospital (where he was working) and had Thanksgiving dinner in the cafeteria. Afterwards, my dad went back to work and my mom and sisters and I saw a movie! It was actually a lot of fun and pretty nice not having to clean the house or prepare a big meal.

Last year my mom had to work on Thanksgiving, so my dad and sisters came to my small apartment and I cooked a Thankgiving dinner then we went to see a movie.

Personally, I love celebrating holidays this way. It's a lot more FUN and a lot less stressfull. I guess the traditional Thanksgiving/Christmas celebrations with all the relatives gathering at someones house have never really appealed to me :confused3 I'd much rather just spend it with my immediate family having fun.

Ever since my kids were little, we have foregone the traditional Christmas Dinner and nevr travled to either parents house. But everyone who wanted to was welcome at our house. All day long I have appetizers, drinks and nosh foods. Works great for us and we now have quite a few people who always stop by for at least a drink and some hors duerves.

(but I do prepare a traditional Italian dinner on Christmas Eve)
