Has anyone else noticed that non stop flights appear to be selling out real fast? I have been checking for a while now and I am now able to book for our trip in March 2007. AS a matter of fact I just now booked our flight with American Airlines.

The flights where selling out very fast and the price was going up? :confused3 I ended up snatching up our flight and it came to a little over $1900.00 for the five of us. Does this sound steep? Normal? :confused3 We wanted non stop since on our last trip it was a nightmare with layovers.

Anyone else have any problems with American? Tell me about any of your experiences.

Personally, I think you bought your tickets too early. What days are you travelling? The fares that far out are always going to be high. I just brought up a number of nonstop flights out of Chicago that were very high ($355 rt) but had only about six seats sold on them. It's just too far out to purchase flights for March IMO.

I bought for March already too, but only because we have vouchers from NWA from taking a bump ($200) and we got direct flights for $73 ($273-$200 voucher). We flew NWA this year and they seemed to have high flights all year except for a brief sale when we grabbed our flights ($199 that day, but only for a few hours around 5:30 am and by 7:30 am the prices were up and I never saw them go down again).

If I didn't have the vouchers from NWA, I wouldn't buy the fare yet, I would wait for Airtran or Southwest to come out. But NWA doesn't seem to do cheap flights anymore and we wanted to use our vouchers (and for the 4 of us we are all flying for under $300, so not bad, I can live with that and already the costs for that flight are up $70 per ticket).

I just purchased tickets last week from American, non-stop from O'Hare, for Jan. The roundtrip price was $203, fees included. Maybe they were so much less because Jan. is a slow season? Anyway, about American.....when I checked my reservation today, they had changed our return flight time, and not by just a little - it is now 4 hours later than it was when I purchased the ticket! :furious: They left the flight number the same, and seems they just decided to drop the 3:30 flight time altogether. At least we still have our requested seats, but I can hardly wait to see what happens to our flight between now and January. :rolleyes2 This is our first experience with American, and so far, I'm not impressed.

I just read that about American. We have never had any experiences with them either. Looks like this might be another scarey experience. Our last flight was a real nightmare with US Airways. I vowed to NEVER fly with them again after that.

At the beginning of March, I booked our flights for July. American Airlines, Boston to MCO, non-stop, for $177 each, which includes taxes and fees. I feel very fortunate to have gotten this price.

I booked our airfare for March last week via Delta. It's Spring break for a lot of schools here and the nonstop flights go fast. Southwest never offers a discount for that time for Columbus to Florida markets. Finding March flights for a discount from some airports is nearly impossible. I checked this morning and the flights are up $32 per person. It's the first time that I have booked this early - but I learned my lesson last year.

That is another reason I went ahead and booked us for next March. This year the flights seemed SO HIGH and it was only because of a strange event that I happened upon a $200 round trip airfare one day for this year (and that price was gone in 2 hours and never reappeared). I figured with all the talk about increases in prices this year I might as well grab what I can now before it got higher.

I am wondering about Airtran, though. I wonder if they offer some lower fare when they first open up, but maybe they are like Southwest and don't offer that in March either.

SW, and I assume other airlines, are doing a much better job (from their perspective) of limited the number of deeply discounted seats on flights that would sell at higher fares. That includes the early sat N/S flights and flights during holiday weeks. Airlines no longer see the need to offer a minimum number of discounted seats on every flight.

Thats sounds pretty expensive, even for 5 people. However, I don't know what airport you are using.

I like buying tickets early, but I would have waited to buy tickets for a March 2007 trip if the price now was so high.

ALL airlines do this, all the time, not just American.

We live in Nova Scotia and a flight for 5 of us would run between 3300-4000+ out of Halifax.

I found through Delta from Boston to MCO $1409 CND RETURN!!!

A 10+ hour drive is worth the savings! We also found a park, stay and fly hotel for $149 USD. What we paid per person return from Boston is less than a one way from Halifax.

DH wouldn't believe me until I actually showed him the tickets and the amount off our statements! :rotfl:

Also be aware that those flights will probably change as time gets closer. We bought our tickets for October in February. We were flying Delta non stop from Kansas City to Orlando and were due to be in at 11:25. We have been notified that the flight has been cancelled and we are now on a Delta that has a lay over in Atlanta and don't get in until 1:30. :furious: But my TA has said that they may add back a non stop before we leave. So don't bank on those being what you will actually be flying.

My DH flies often on business and only goes on American when he absolutely *has* to. we like United/Ted and Southwest much better.

agnes!

I bought our March tickets last week too. It seems like all of the ORD fares were that high. We are going out of Milwaukee instead and got 290 pp. That's alot higher than the past few years but I don't think they are going to get cheaper. I didn't want to wait for SW-don't like driving to Midway. I miss Spirit!
