It depends on the airline, but some airlines only release their seats for booking about eight months in advance. Again, this varies by airline.

I don't think there is a distinction for non-stop flights when they open, all flights stop somewhere. The legacy airlines are already available - United, American, Delta but will likely have changes as time goes by. Southwest opened December on May 18 last year.
