Non Skid Shoes--Purchased. Update 5-13

Good evening friends,

By God's grace I expect to be coming home from rehab by the end of this week ahead. I have had (and will ctioontinue to have until I'm completely back to normal) physical therapy to strengthen my feet and legs. I am in need of a pair of non skid sneakers that would keep me safe walking (for now with a walker) inside my apartment and outside in a common area to the building.

I will be seeing two trusted therapists who have become friends that I have been working with for the last three months tomorrow. I will ask for their suggestions. I would appreciate any of your thoughts on here, too. I would prefer the shoe be athletic and a color other than black. Ideally, I could also order the shoes on Amazon for an easier return if need be.

I used Skechers Eden-LX Royal Stride slip-ins post hip replacement surgery. Don't know if that'll work for you as they are a bit tight actually slipping in. I have both black & white ones. I'm not sure if they still have the white ones available.



I also have Avia Union-II with velcro strap closures in both black & white

I should have originally included in my post that I would need the shoes to be roomier/stretchier to allow for stiff feet and the gripper socks I will be wearing on them. I normally wear a 9 1/2 in a lace up sneaker. I was thinking trying a 10 might work better?

They tend to wear out faster, but possibly something with a gum rubber sole. They'll get excellent grip on all sorts of surfaces, but the tradeoff is faster wear on abrasive surfaces.

Wearing shoes that are a size bigger than you're used to can be a tripping hazard. I would look at shoes in your size in wide.

Congratulations on doing well enough to move to the next phase!

New Balance Fuelcell have been life changing for me and allowed me to visit WDW and Universal recently, albeit slowly, but I did it. The shoes are designed to be a long distance running shoe I think. I stumbled across the New Balance Fuel Cell shoes a few years back at a Marshalls because I am always looking. They have excellent traction but the cushioning inside was the thing that made the biggest difference for me because impact pain with my arthritis is excruciating to the point I often count steps. They just came out with a new Version 5 that I got the other day, it feels like a little trampoline is inside pushing back up - blissful.

If you want a less clunky sneaker the Clarks Cloudstepper were replaced by Clarks Breeze Avenue

I do like a pair of pink (my favorite color) shoes I got on Amazon. A direct link is not coming up, so here is a description of them. I was able to show them to one of my therapists here who gave them a thumbs up. I will have to carefully and slowly get used to wearing shoes again..what a blessing though to be able to do

I think you should use regular socks inside the sneakers and not hospital type socks. Just change them out before you put them on. Let your feet get used to being in the shoes with socks so you can get used to walking again regularly. Hugs.

Thanks dear Pea. I agree that the grippers work inside while regular socks would feel and fit better in shoes. This week ahead I will put on the shoes while sitting just to get used to them.
