I'm so sorry! Layoffs suck. The county one over from us just announced that they are laying off 70 teachers. They are doing away with all art, music, and PE programs too (that is part of the 70 teachers). It is a really sad time for the kids and teachers right now.

My friend is a math teacher, and was laid off last year. She took a position with an online school and loves it. She teaches from her home every day, and only has to go to the main office maybe a couple of days a month. She is also happy with the pay. Look outside of the box - she said that online schools are booming - I guess lots of parents are done with public school!

This happened last year in my district then lots of folks were rehired. So hard to wait and see if that will be an option though...


I wish people understood that cutting "education" means cutting jobs.

That would be so nice. Can't really figure out how anyone can justify targeting education as the place to make cuts.

The school system in my town is the biggest part of our budget. So all departments are cutting back which includes the school.

We may lose 27 school positions (inlcuding teachers and admin staff) unless an override for taxes goes through. The average homeowner would be paying $280 more per year on the override. While it doesn't sound like a lot, we already passed 2 overrides within the past 10 years so people are getting tired of them.

I do plan to support the override but there are many people who will not.
