Non-point stays?

MCO Hyatt for me to booked the trip and reduce the points I need.

I love it to de-stress from travel and take things at a slower pace. No need to rush to the resort, or on the way back rush out.

Helps maximize the Waterpark day on check in as well.

Plenty of quick serve options at MCO in addition to mccoys at the hotel.

You should waitlist the value studio for that night alone and then if it comes through you get to save even more :P
I might try that if one of our two other waitlists comes through first 😄

This is a good point, you can use that first night as an opportunity to try something you wouldn't normally get to try. On one of our trips we tried out a room at Gran Destino tower at Coronado which was actually quite nice. We made a date night out of it at 3 Bridges.
We stayed in the GDT for our honeymoon and two race weekends so far (before buying DVC). We love it so much! Honestly would be quite happy if they added it to the DVC portfolio 😉

We’d use our AP discount or other discounts we have to stay onsite. If we didn’t want to do a deluxe like Riviera, I’d go with Caribbean beach.

Yes! This.

I believe there’s a standard 25% DVC discount if you book through Member Services.
It’s only good for stays at DVC resorts and not all nights are available. I use my AP discount for non-DVC Disney resorts stays. I actually scored a great AP discount for December at the Dolphin, which is one of my go to places.

We did a few trips where we would spend a night or two either before or after our DVC stay at a resort we wanted to try. This was before DVC was ubiquitous - so we stayed at Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom and the Poly - Wilderness Lodge had DVC units but we did a night as a cash stay.

We've also stayed at a near airport hotel - sometimes the MCO Hyatt if its a good rate if we are flying out early the next morning or come in late at night.

And we've done a few nights at Universal.

We've always had a very small number of points and done every other year trips - we've generally done the night or two when we've had friends or family travel with us and have needed to stretch our points - and have a few days before or after traveling with other people for a mini family vacation. Universal was when the kids were the age at which Universal is a better vacation.

Hrmm that brings up the point, maybe its worth staying at Universal just for 1 night in a deluxe resort of their so you can get express pass on the day of check in and check out.

To use our other “points” when we are out of DVC points, it’s first choice of Swan & Dolphin and second choice - Hilton Disney Springs. We certainly stayed further off property using points at Hilton/Marriott but then need to factor in a car or Uber.

Just used our Sorcerer passes for the AP discount to book CS Gran Destino, $250 night this summer.

We also like Swan/Dolphin, but holy cow can the rates there be all over. No, I don't think I'll pay $1,000 per night for two double beds! It did include the $45 resort fee, lol.

Good point on the Swan. Rates can be all over the place. They do a lot of convention/conference meetings so that can also take up rooms and jack up the rate. That would be less around the holidays but still something to consider. They also have had promotions where you book 4 nights on points and you get the 5th free.

That was actually the bigger motivator.

There is a DVC discount, but it only applies to DVC resorts. We've used it when we stayed at our home resort for, say, 11 days but only had enough points for 8. Then we ask if "members' cash" is available for the other 3 nights. Members cash is 25% off the regular cash rate and what's nice is that it can be booked at 11 months out if it's available.
