Non-Partisan Thoughts About Vice-President Cheney

If you were looking for a serious analysis of the incident, you should have stopped after reading the original post, but you're still here.

The OP was very clear to make this a joke throughout, making fun of the vice president.

Making the Ted Kennedy and Bill Clinton analogies is quite fitting, when taken in the context of wrong doing that goes unpunished.

If you don't want to hear about true criminal behavior by public officials, I suggest you refrain from opening these types of threads.
I appreciate your advice but I will continue to open any threads I wish if you don't mind. Actually I will even if you do mind. Your arrogance is astounding.

As for wrong that goes unpunished, that's completely irrelevant IMO. Those events are old news, the statutes of limitations have run out if nothing else and no one cares any more except the hatemongers on the Right. Cheney's accident is current news and should be investigated in the same manner as ANY shooting accident. Only then should we move on.

It does warm my heart a bit that Joe is so proud to be American because we are "liberating" other countries though. If only the same attention was given to problems at home, then we might actually get somewhere. But that is way too OT especially since most Vice Presidents have little say-so about these things.

What do oil prices have to do with Cheney?

As for the war in Iraq, blame the terrorists and former terrorist supporter, Saddam.

25 million liberated in Afganistan and 25 million liberated in Iraq -- make me proud to be an American. (Oh wait, I suppose the UN was going to do something evenutally after they spent all their bribe money. Maybe I should thank them too. NOT.)

The war in Iraq helped destablize oil prices and profit people with oil interests.

Iran is building nuclear weapons - what is our administration doing about that? What about the Saudis who had their hands in 9/11. I agree with Donald Trump who said, "What would Saudi Arabia be if we pulled our oil interests out of there." In 24/7 they'd be a big pile of sand. The Iraqis are the least of our problems.

The Cheney accident has been investigated.

We have been liberating other countries, just like in WWII. Why do you put "liberating in quotes" ? Do these people not count?

Problems at home. Yes, some. Maybe if the Dems would stop obstructing legislation (like S.S.) or actually come up with some solutions of their own (what a stunner that would be!) Congress could get something done.

Overall, our country is in great shape and the economy continues to improve. :sunny: :goodvibes Yes, proud to be an American.

The Iraqi people are not our problem; the terrorists there are the problem. The war on terror continues and will take a long time as was said from the onset. Maybe this Danish cartoon resulting in more destruction and death from the "religion of peace" will wake the world up.

I would not take business advice from the Donald. Oil is needed around the world and demand continues to increase. The Saudi's good find buyers easily enough.

Iran. The the USA with the world is putting pressure on them. (The toothless UN has let the Iranians get too far already -- big surprise.) Military options against Iran have not been ruled out.

I'm proud to be an American too but not for the same reasons. Too many people that I personally know are struggling for me to immediately agree that our country is in great shape. It may be so in your world but sometimes it might be wise to look beyond that from time to time.

Personally, I'm proud as an American that we can have discussions such as these. If our troops are fighting for anything for US nowadays, it's the chance to speak our minds. That includes criticism of our admininstration or obstructing legislation (as you put it) and so on.

But that's OT. IF the Cheney incident has truly been investigated and the local authorities are satisfied that no wrongdoing of any kind can be prosecuted, then I'm more than satisfied.

Well JoeEpcotRocks, I agree with you on the Olympics, politics is where we diverge. :teeth:

The problem is kids like my nephew are going in for their third tour to Iraq because there are not enough troops. Inside scoop is that even Rumsfeld isn't happy with what is going on over there. When is it enough and at what cost? What about a mandatory draft? Are you willing to send anyone and everyone over there to fight this war, so we can accomplish the job? Would you go over there if you had to?

I wouldn't necessarily take business advice from the Donald either, but he did have a good point that we need less politicians and more business people running this world. The Saudis could find other buyers, but the larger issue is that oil is a limited resource. Some day we are going to run out and we need to start advocating alternate energy sources.

Oh well, I'm completely off on a tangent... :rotfl: what was this thread about originally? Oh, yah, Cheney and his hunting skills.

The answer to that question is -- No, Joe is not willing to go over there and fight for what he so very much believes in. However, I would not be suprised if he did not mind if other people were sent over there via a draft.

Is this a not so subtle attempt to call Joe a CHicken HAwk? :rotfl: No wonder he backs Dr. Death who got 5 deferments instead of picking up his machine gun to defend the country.

I posted this on the other Cheney thread but it should have been here in the first place.

What a field day!

"Late Show with David Letterman," CBS
"Good news, ladies and gentlemen, we have finally located weapons of mass destruction: It's Dick Cheney."

"But here is the sad part -- before the trip Donald Rumsfeld had denied the guy's request for body armor."

"We can't get Bin Laden, but we nailed a 78-year-old attorney."

"The guy who got gunned down, he is a Republican lawyer and a big Republican donor and fortunately the buck shot was deflected by wads of laundered cash. So he's fine. He took a little in the wallet."

"The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," NBC
"Although it is beautiful here in California, the weather back East has been atrocious. There was so much snow in Washington, D.C., Dick Cheney accidentally shot a fat guy thinking it was a polar bear."

"That's the big story over the weekend. ... Dick Cheney accidentally shot a fellow hunter, a 78-year-old lawyer. In fact, when people found out he shot a lawyer, his popularity is now at 92 percent."

"I think Cheney is starting to lose it. After he shot the guy he screamed, 'Anyone else want to call domestic wire tapping illegal?' "

"Dick Cheney is capitalizing on this for Valentine's Day. It's the new Dick Cheney cologne. It's called Duck!"

"The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," Comedy Central
The show's segment titles included "Cheney's Got a Gun," "No. 2 With a Bullet" and "Dead-Eye Dick."

"Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot a man during a quail hunt ... making 78-year-old Harry Whittington the first person shot by a sitting veep since Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton, of course, (was) shot in a duel with Aaron Burr over issues of honor, integrity and political maneuvering. Whittington? Mistaken for a bird."What a field day!

Moms, dads, if you're watching right now, I can't emphasize this enough: Do not let your kids go on hunting trips with the vice president. I don't care what kind of lucrative contracts they're trying to land, or energy regulations they're trying to get lifted -- it's just not worth it."

"Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," CBS
"He is a lawyer and he got shot in the face. But he's a lawyer, he can use his other face. He'll be all right."

"You can understand why this lawyer fellow let his guard down, because if you're out hunting with a politician, you think, 'If I'm going to get it, it's going to be in the back.' "

"The big scandal apparently is that they didn't release the news for 18 hours. I don't think that's a scandal at all. I'm quite pleased about that. Finally there's a secret the vice president's office can keep."

"Apparently the reason they didn't release the information right away is they said we had to get the facts right. That's never stopped them in the past."

How can you pretend to know this?

Has he himself done a tour or two? Does he have family there now? I certainly don't know, but I'm sure you don't either. Just mean spirited supposition on your part. And for what?

He's answered all those questions on many, many other political threads. That's how I know.

However, your comment about my "mean spirited supposition" is a mean spirited supposition.

But don't worry, I'll "get over it". :sunny:

Just trying to help you out. Please, continue on if you see fit.

Sorry, no statue of limitations on murder. You don't have to be from the left or the right to see that he has never answered for his actions.

The VP's incident was news, absolutely. For about two minutes, with another two minutes when the victim left the hospital. White house press corp has made it much more as payback for shutting them out of the initial reporting.

I would love to be able to be an isolationist. Let's get out of every foreign country, with all humanitarian and military aid, including the middle east. The money and resources can be much better spent here in the US.

It's just not possible however. It's the price we pay for being the world power that we are.

Republican in the White House, Republican controlled Senate, Republican controlled House; yet you're still blaming the Dems for nothing getting done? You think most of their legislation presentations even get into committee? Hard to have solutions when the powers that be won't even give you the time of day. If you are dissatisfied with the lack of new legislation, or overhaul of the old, blame your own party!

here's the Sheriff's report on the incident. Funny, it was reported immediately by the Secret Service.

The sheriff made the decision to not get the VP's statement until the following day, based on a police officer's recommendation, as that officer was on scene.

The Secret Service agent thought the Sheriff would come out right away and asked when the would be arriving. The Sheriff decided not until the next morning. Aparently, no attempt to hide anything. This fact has to be so disappointing to so many.

So much for the cover up theories.

Clearly, his job is to dismantle the two party system. While I think the two party system is necessary, Dean has been quite successful, and that's not a good thing.

Bummer. This thread has lost all its humor.

I can't for the life of me understand what Chappaquiddick, Bill Clinton, or Howard Dean have to do with VP Cheney shooting someone in the face, but the bottom line is, if the old guy is ok with Dick Cheney shooting him in the face, then so am I. Perhaps Cheney could shoot a few more donors in the face, while he's at it. Why the VP insists on playing Lord of the Manor shooting birds with some other old geezer at his age is beyond me. Maybe in the weeds is the only place he thinks George Bush won't be able to set up surveillance or wire tapping equipment.
