Non-members blatantly using facilities

I agree, in general, that only resort guests (or DVC members as part of our pool hopping perk, of course) should be allowed to use the pool at their resort, and that is should be policed better. However, I do think that there should be a guest policy of some sort. For example, when multiple groups (of family members of friends) are staying in different resorts at WDW, I think it is fair and reasonable to allow a resort guest (DVC or CRO) to have guests join them at their pool.

I may get flamed for this, but that's what I did on my last trip. I coordinated a WDW trip with my cousin and her family who drove down with their camper and stayed at Fort Wilderness. Being DVC members, we naturally stayed at VWL. A couple times we joined them at the FW pool, and a couple times they came and joined us at VWL/WL. I feel no guilt for this and think it is a reasonable thing to allow.

This situation happened to me recently with someone I knew!

In July while staying at VWL, I actually ran into a co-worker who lived about 30 minutes away. He was there with one of his children and I said are you staying here? He told me no, that he alternates each weekend with a different Disney Hotel pool and he takes turns with each of his 3 children. I was stunned. He pool crashes a different hotel every weekend!

Of course since this was a co-worker I wasn't going to say anything, but it did bother me. :confused3

IMHO this is just as wrong. In your eyes it's okay because they are your family but that makes no difference at all to the folks that are staying at the resort, paying for it and can't find a lounge or a chair because you have your family/friends at the pool.

I agree there should be a guest policy. I don't know if they have a formal one or not, I've never heard they did. The policy should limit it to a couple of people and only upon approval of management subject to the pool not being crowded. You can always add them to your room subject to the occupancy.

Random chatting with a younger couple (mid 20's) at the grocery store- they told me that they just returned from Disney and had a GREAT time. Of course I asked where they stayed and they told me IN THEIR CAR AT CBR! They pool hopped- used the laundry facilities and showers. I must have had this expression:eek:  But they went on to tell me that they really enjoyed the pool at WL AND that they even found a $100 bill there!

How the heck can you stay in your car in the parking lot and not be noticed!???? :headache: :furious:

Wow, just when you think it couldn't get any worse.......:sad2:

I am a teacher and we have rules. For example, no food is allowed outside of the cafeteria. It angers me to no end when it is not enforced (I enforce it, but not all do, including the administrators). I would rather not have it be a rule if they don't enforce it.
I guess I get even more angry when rules are set but not seen as too important to enforce as in the pool hoppers. Why have a rule, but not make sure that it is enforced ALL the time, especially when it it obviously being broken on a daily basis? Others have mentioned that pools at Vegas and other hot spots have a way of keeping out pool hoppers, why can't Disney get it right? :confused3

I know of people who have stayed in hotel lobbies down there or on benches in area saround resorts... However, Disney has been more dligent since 9/11 in preventing this...

Disney seems to think it's image is at stake.

warm, fuzzy - which Disney tries to be - is not - cold, you must follow all the rules to their guests.

now CM have to follow disney rules or be fired.

but not so the guests.

if you know chances are you are not going to be told to leave - their attitude why not.

of course, these people don't feel the shame that most of do if asked to leave the pool or area.

some even laugh about it.

This is just unbelieveable. How did they even get access to the parking lot. Whenever we have gone, at the gate, the guard asks who you are and usually has information on you staying at the resort. Even if you say you're visiting someone else or just visiting the resort, you only have a couple hours you're allowed to be there.

Can you imagine how that car smelled at the end of the stay.

Do any of you DVC members ever go to the DVC pools when you are not staying at a DVC resort? Is that different than someone else using the pools when they are not DVC members? And are you allowed to use DVC pools if you are staying at a WDW hotel? I think that would be a nice perk for DVC members, ie, to use DVC pools whether you're staying or not staying at a DVC resort or WDW hotel. Of course if there is room at the pool.

We never have & don't know if it's allowed.
I would think it isn't.......the pools are designed to hold the maximum # of people that could be in a specific DVC at one time.

What happened to the Parking Pass? I Just can't believe someone would try this, then to hear that they got away with it! Just nuts!!! They must have given the Security Guard one great Lie to get into the resort! Even at the worst of Financial times for us, We would have Never, and I want to repeat never have tried such a thing! I just wonder how they looked everyday. I need bathroom time. I wonder what they did in the mornings? Go to the Pool Bathrooms? How gross is this? Brush teeth, the works at the Pool?

At VB on Fourth of July 2007 it seemed half of the people in the pool were from that area. The DJ kept asking where everyone was from and people kept saying VB! One guy even told me he had been bringing his family every Fourth since the resort opened! Kinda irritating since it was hard to find chairs.

We have done it. It IS allowed with certain restrictions.

Actually it is not allowed.

The language of the pool hopping perk specifically states that only members staying on points at SSR, OKW, BWV, BCV, VWL and AKV are eligible to hop to another pool.

We are members and were staying on points - we don't break the rules!! (they were asking DVC members on the previous post)

ETA - sorry, I read the post incorrectly - we were only at DVC resorts :rolleyes1

I agree. If the pools are crowded and there is no capacity, absolutely the members come first and guests not allowed. And I certainly don't think the number of guests should be unlimited, such as with the woman mentioned earlier who wanted her daughter’s b-day party at SAB. I think 4-6 guests (the size of an average family) is reasonable, however.

IMHO this is just as wrong. In your eyes it's okay because they are your family but that makes no difference at all to the folks that are staying at the resort, paying for it and can't find a lounge or a chair because you have your family/friends at the pool.

Yes, I do think it would be a reasonable policy, if as mentioned above, the pool isn't crowded and there is a limit on the number of guests. I think members should have some ability to share their resort with a few guests, including the pool, within reason.
