Non-members blatantly using facilities

Well the last time I confronted someone for cutting me off on the road, they pointed a pistol at me! Sooooo.......from then on I just let it go!
There are many right and wrong ways to handle issues such as this. Confronting them directly is likely not one of them. Reporting it to the appropriate Disney staff and demanding that something be done IS the way to approach it if one feels strongly about the issue.

What are the rules for pool hopping?

I have to begin by saying that I am a total stickler for not cutting corners or doing things that are against rules, even little things such as the aforementioned not moving down at Fantasmic when they ask you to move to the end of the aisle. To me, setting a good example for my kids is #1. However, with that said, if the rule is that you can't pool hop, I am a bit disappointed. This past year, we went down to Disney World with a rather large group from our town, but we were spread out across several hotels. We met up one night at one of the resorts. I guess it is a sticky issue. While I would probably be upset if the pool at my hotel was overcrowded, I can see why people would want to be able to meet up with other Disney guests who are staying at other hotels. This hits home for me, as my parents have gone with us in the past, but they stay in their motorhome at Fort Wilderness......But as for the non Disney pool hoppers, off with their heads!

I don't think these people would qualify as pool hoppers. They weren't staying on property. They were using it as the neighborhood pool. Pool hopping is one thing, but just going when you aren't a paying guest, that's totally different.

You're correct. This situation is a little bit different and clearly the off-site residents have no business using a resort pool. But Disney isn't going to catch one group of offenders if they make no efforts to catch another.

In regard to hopping in general, others have suggested that it would be very easy to do key card checks or other forms of enforcement. But they aren't. Not even at SAB. So apparently Disney has other priorities.

I don't personally view it as my role to police other guests' actions at the Disney parks. We've already had reports of Disney CMs encouraging people to pool hop. Should a family who was told to pool hop be escorted from the pool area? How would any of us feel if we were following the direction of one CM only to be scolded by another?

And while I may see things throughout my time at WDW that I believe to be improper, I am also open to the possibility that I do not know the entire story. As an admittedly flawed human being myself, I'm typically not in a rush to judge whether another's actions are immoral or unethical.

I tend to agree with Carol's comments back in post #2:
Personally, I probably would not say anything to the lifeguards or resort management unless the crashers or their kids were "behaving badly" or taking up chairs when others were obviously looking for one.

What if you OWN at a resort that does not allow pool hopping, but are staying at another resort? Could one then still use the pool and show your DVC member card?

I never noticed that look before. :scared:

As a former school teacher, I know that look. Arch one eyebrow, narrow down the other eye and tilt your head, chin down. Kind of "looking over the top of the glasses" look.

I think the pools look great at WDW, but they are gross. They need to crack down on toddlers peeing in the pool and require swim diapers for kids under 5. Now that's the real problem I have with the pools. We didn't even go to the pool this last trip, because the pool was full of toddlers without diapers, so you know it's also full of pee. YUCK! :scared1: I know that's off topic, but had to say it somewhere.
You ever held a toddler (out of the water) in a swim diaper? They're (toddler) a ticking time bomb because those swim diapers do not hold liquid :scared:
They (swim diapers) really only exist to hold in the "floaties" :rotfl:  where a regular diaper tries to absorb all the water in the pool and flows apart

The pool and the chlorine will take care of the clean liquid leakage. Only the staff can take care of the floaties. How about saran wrapping the kid from head to toe??;)

Hey Hope, I want you to know that I think your experience was probably life changing. It has been for me in a similar experience (road rage). But I hope you don't become afraid of the common thief. I think many people are just stealing because it is easy and rarely confronted. I truly don't expect you to take any chances, but I hope you can share information with people in charge when something wrong has been done.

Love you lady :flower3:

What are the rules for pool hopping?

Each of the resort newsletters (given out at check-in) have a line that states that resort pools are for use of guests registered at that resort only. I'll give Disney the benefit of the doubt and assume similar statements are posted outside the pool areas, but I really can't confirm.

If you say "met up one night at one of the resorts" meaning that you all shared the resort pool, then you were in violation of the rules. Nothing sticky about it. If Disney were actively enforcing these rules, you all would have been limited to your respective resorts.

If your asking can you PH to BCV while staying at OKW because you own there, the answer is no. DVC does not have day use for members like some other systems/resorts tend to have.

When it comes to pool hopping, it doesn't matter where you own. Only where you are staying on points for that trip AND if pool hopping is blacked out for a holiday period. Pool hopping is limited to DVC members and their guests staying with them on points at a DVC resort during non-blackout times.

Not staying on points at a DVC resort other than through MS on cash? You can't pool hop.
Staying at a non-DVC resort on points? You can't pool hop.
Huge family and friends staying all over the World? You can't pool hop. Try the water parks if you want to swim together or book the same resort.

That's not such an easy issue as it comes more to having guests than to PH or crashing. IMO it would depend on the specifics and ultimately be up to a management type person to decide if one were to ask. They usually say OK if it's a reasonable situation but likely would say no if you were in a studio and wanted to bring 20 friends. DVC PH could also come into play for members and guests of members. To my knowledge Disney does not have a formal policy on guests other than for closed off pools like SAB.

Sure will when I have my husband there!!:rotfl: I admire your good heart and wish more in our society cared as you!

I have a question about pools at WDW. I thought you could get a day pass for guest at your resort to use pools, am I wrong? I was at that understanding if my DS and his DW came to visit for the day I could get them one.

No, there is no day pass for pool visits at WDW resorts. Sorry...we have had family come visit, and notified the security guards of who was expected and what time, but we never brought them out to the pools as that is not allowed.

Do you think a 6, 10 or 15 year old doesn't ever pee in a pool?:confused3

Couple of things. Chlorine and Allegycide kills most of anything in a pool.

I am no where near perfect but it sure takes a large set to go to a place you aren't staying and use the pool. Try that in a 5 star hotel and you will find yourself out on your butt. Yet, it always seems to happen at WDW. This PC don't enforce the rules world we live in now is a joke.

Lastly, I wouldn't waste my time confronting someone over this...you might get one offender but there will be 4 or 5 more to take their place!!!!!
