Non Hodgkin's lymphoma

My beloved grandfather was diagnosed yesterday with Non Hodgkins lymphoma. He will start chemo tomorrow and they suspect the first round to take 6 months, where he will receive chemo treatment every 3 weeks.
I feel so sad.
The last time my family had to deal with cancer was when DH´s grandma had cancer, and died from it.

I hate cancer!

My mom was diagnosed with that 3 years ago, went through Chemo and is completely recovered now. The doctor said, if you're going to get cancer, that's a good one to get because it's so treatable. Best wishes to you and your grandfather.

Good luck to your grandfather!! I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin's lymphoma back in 2003, was declared cancer free in 2005, and officially discharged from my oncologist in 2008.

Another survivor here. I was diagnosed back in 1988 when I was 22 years old. Been cancer free ever since.

You're right though.... cancer sucks, but we have made great strides, too.

She was about 66 or 67.

My friend just went through this. Started in September. She had major surgery in January (stem cell therapy) and has had 2 clean scans so far! Cancer free!

The only person I know that had this type of cancer is alive and still causing trouble 10 years down the track

Good luck to your grandfather!! I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin's lymphoma back in 2003, was declared cancer free in 2005, and officially discharged from my oncologist in 2008.

My mother was just diagnosed with Non Hodgkin's lymphoma SLL/CLL. THis is an indolent cancer (terminal slow growing cancer) so she doesn't need chemo right now. She is stage 1 and the doctors usually wait until the symptoms are bad before they treat her. I hope they are making the right decision.

I am a little confused about NHL, I was always told that it is a chronic disease but terminal, I guess that isn't true? For those that beat this cancer what kind of NHL did you have?

My friend was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma last year and went through chemo. She was only cancer free for 3 months before it came back. The doctors are in shock and she is currently doing the stem cell transplant. Has anyone been through this? How can we help her be connect to her family while she is in the hospital?

We know two different men through work that have had it. Both are recovered. One was diagnosed about 15 years ago and is doing fine. The other was diagnosed about 6 years ago and is also doing well. It is a very treatable cancer.

The friend who had it 15 years ago also had it come back after just a few months and had the stem cell transplant and that worked.

Thank you so much, all of you! It has helped a lot to read all your success stories. My grandfather is 82 years old and they told him the type he has is quite aggressive but very often treatable. I hope we will still have a few good years w. him. His mother is alive and she will turn 105 in May

Just a short update since I´m quite sad today. My grandfather got a high fever 2 days ago and was admitted to hospital while they were trying to figure out whether he had an infection or where else the fever was stemming from. They found a unknown bacteria in his blood and he has not been responding to any of the medication they have given him. He now has fluid in his lungs and things are looking pretty dark. I can´t believe that he was "fine" just a month ago and now it looks like we´re loosing him.
