I already know that non guests are not allowed to use the pools, but here is an exception which I think will be OK, but just wanted to check to see what everyone thought.

My wife's friend, her husband and 15 yr old daughter are coming for a week and are staying at the Contemporary. During the week, her husband has to drive to Miami for 2 days of meetings and is going to stay overnight. So my wife is thinking of staying one day with her friend. Essentially, no extra people will be using the facilities since the husband won't be there. Can my wife use his room key as ID if asked by a CM while she is at the pool? Does she need to check in at the front desk, even though she is not staying overnight?

Just to make sure, why don't you suggest that her friend add her to the reservation for the night anyway? That way she has her own key ( a nice touch if she presents it at the pool but doesn't look much like a "Bill" or "Steve"!!) As long as they aren't over the occupancy - and with 3 family members she could still add a 4th to any room at the Contemporary - it would reduce any hassle if she got stopped with the husband's key. It seems easy enough to do it that way.

I would check to see if you can have a friend pass or something. There is someone is a guest at the hotel, I can't see why you wouldn't be able to have someone visit. But that is just me. I don't know the "official rules"

I don't see why this would be a problem...We have done this in the past at The Beach Club.

I don't think it'll be a problem either. In fact, I've never been asked for my resort ID ever to use any of the pools in the resorts on property. Last year we stayed at the ASMo and my aunt & her family were at POFQ resort and we joined them at the pool, as theirs was much better, and nobody said anything, and just thinking about it now-we never hesitated or gave that a thought. Have a blast and enjoy your trip!

In the past when my family and I have stayed at the Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge, the odd time we have been asked to show our KTTW cards when the lifeguards were walking by the chairs and asking all guests to show them. So it can happen which is something to keep in mind.

You have obviously never stayed at YC/BC where no one is permitted to enter the pool area without being required to show your resort ID. I believe some of the other deluxe hotels check IDs on a regular basis as well.

You have been lucky. Disney does check for resort ids, especially at its more popular pools, to make sure whoever is swimming in that pool is a guest of that resort. The Yacht and Beach clubs go so far as to issue wrist-bands for its guests. What you did is called pool-hopping, and it IS against the rules.

The pools go up in size and features in direct relation to how much you are paying per night. Value pools are blah, Moderates better, and the Deluxe pools are the best of all. If a pool is a big part of your vacation, then you need to take that into consideration when booking your resort. Not trying to be a witch, but it is not fair to the people who pay more to stay at a nicer resort to have to share their pool with people who did not pay for it.

OP-- If the husband of your wife's friend is listed on the reservation, and then they add your wife, just to cover the bases, they will be charged for an extra adult. Why not just ask about it at the resort?

Unless you are at Fort Wilderness lol. :rotfl: We are paying quite a bit to stay in the cabins and the pool there leaves a lot to be desired. I hear they are upgrading it though.

I know at the WL they have become very strict. We stayed there in 2003 and there were many from the campgrounds using the pool. Last year we went to check out the campgrounds and ran into a family staying the one of the cabins. They told us that they actually had to sign something that they wouldn't go to the WL pool. I guess maybe WDW should upgrade the pool for the Campground and cabins - maybe something with the old River Country. It is just rotting away. It's a shame. So I do know that as for the WL there is some type of control in place.

I guess we were writing at the same time! Glad to hear that they are upgrading the pool. I think that will stop some of the people trying to go to the WL area. See my post above this.

Ah - I didn't think about the extra adult charge. That does change things a little!!!

I have to say, and I'll apologize to CR Fan 4 Life in advance, that I don't think you'll have much of an issue at the CR. Their pool is not one of the pools that people are inclined to hop to. It's pretty plain and straightforward. I would just ask the lifeguard if it's okay to swim with the friend. I'll bet your wife is told it's no problem. But, it's common courtesy to ask first.
And yes, life guards to ask to see resort ID. Not as often as I would like at BW but they do from time to time...especially if it's a busy time, and the pool is crowded.

No need to apologize because I know the pool at the Contemporary is not the most fancy one that others would like to pool hopp to. I was just stating from personal experience that the lifeguards there have asked to see our KTTW cards while we were sitting in the pool chairs.

If your wife is not planning on staying overnight, there is no reason she would need to check-in at the front desk. Just have your wife's friend explain the situation and ask if it would be alright for your wife to spend the day at the pool with them. As long as you are asking permission first, I don't see any of the CM's having a problem with it. The friend is a paying guest (who will be short one party member); your wife is an adult who I'm sure won't be causing any trouble and Disney is in the business of trying to keep their guests happy. I'm sure something can be worked out to please everyone and not be unfair to other hotel guests. :)

Non-guests at the pools is a very heated topic on the boards. In all the times my family has been to Disney, we have never been asked to show our resort ID at our resort pools (we don't pool hop). YC & BC strictly enforce the rule because their pool is almost like a small water park. Hope it all works out and your wife and her friend have a nice reunion!

Wow-In the four times we've stayed on property-I've never ever been asked to show ID....thanks for the heads up.:worship:
