We have been going to Lake Tahoe e/o/y for the last 6 years and this is our plan going forward. We toured Marriott Timberlodge on our first trip, but did not purchase. We then used DVC points to exchange and stay there last summer. As I am getting ready to plan the trip for next summer we are discussing whether to buy at Lake Tahoe. Any advice? Is anyone familiar with Lake Tahoe Vacation Club (formally Embassy)? I have found several listings in the $5K range for even week choice e/o/y. Should we always just try to trade out using our DVC points? The other option I am thinking it to rent a home each time we go, but I want to be close to the casinos and must nice ones we would consider seem to be 10-15 drive out.

Thanks for your advice!

We stayed at the Timberlodge last year. Really is a nice resort and is one of our home resorts. However, I think it is over priced because if you like Tahoe in the summer rather than ski season, you seem to be able to easily trade into it using any other Marriott or good II trader. Thus, you may want to look into a cheaper resale with lower MFs. We own the Marriott Manor Club in Williamsburg too that you can get every year for around 8K to 9K and affordable MFs. That should trade in Timberlodge all summer as well as into HI, CA, and we have traded it and ACs from it into DVC many times. Just another option to think about.
