Non-DVC-er renting points

I'm very interested in buying DVC, but am still unsure about resale or direct from disney. I want to go down there in March and stay at OKW and check out SSR and DVC while we're there. I'd like to stay in a one bedroom at OKW, but I see booking one directly through Disney for the week I'd like is almost $3600. I see on the rent/trade board that points are generally going for about $10, of which I'd need 218. Am I missing something? Are there more costs involved in the renting process than I am aware of? Is the process more involved? Any insight would be appreciated.

Renting points is a HUGE savings. About teh only added costs are if you want more than trash and towels every 4 days and a cleaning every 7 or 8 days. DVC does not have daily housekeeping like the hotels, but that's about it! You'll want to find out the renters terms, but there are no "hidden fees."

Renting points is a good deal for everyone! Both the rentee and the rentor need to have some trust in each other, but I've never heard of a transaction that went bad. (proably has been, but I've never heard about any). Go, and have fun!

Renting points can be a big savings, but there is a fair amount of risk on both the point owner's and renter's side. Don't be surprised if you have to pay in full up front, with no refund within a couple months of the vacation.

It has worked well for many, many people. But there have been problems, as there always will be when two humans interact. Just make sure you have a good written agreement and you should be fine.

I hope you enjoy your stay...it's a great way to see if DVC is right for you!

But if you are willing to spend the $2180 for renting, why not just go ahead and use that as your downpayment. If you have been to Disney already, like what you see, play to go at least once a year, just do it. I'd hate to spend all that money and then it doesn't count as anything.
