Non-DVC (Disneyland Paradise Pier) Rental Question

Hi Everyone,

I do not want to seem dense, but I am wondering about something.....

We own with OKW, and in January 2012 we will probably be attending the Tinkerbell 5K run at Disneyland. Of course, when I called, there is no availability with the GCV Studio (no real surprise there).

Anyway, as I understand it, I can use my points to stay at Disneyland Paradise Pier, for slight higher points, and with the $95 non-refundable fee that is due.

If we do go that route, what are the odds that something will be available if we reserve around September? Is it like normal DVC and based on availability or can I just call and reserve when I need to using the points?

I already have reservations with OKW for June 2012 :goodvibes

The Disneyland Resort Hotels are exempt (currently) from the $95 transaction fee. If you do book, the points used will become 'Reservation' points and can't be used for a DVC Resort reservation if you cancel.

I find the points fairly high (but would still do it). You should be able to find these point requirements in your Dream Book under the Disney Collection section.

I would give the WL at VGC a couple months before trading out the points to PPH. In CA the WLs often come through, at least they have for me.

Thank you so much for that. I thought that the fee was in place for everything outside of that DVC realm. This is good to know. :thumbsup2

Yes, I noticed that the points would be 70 points for a standard view at Paradise Pier. I did look to the Dream Book (it comes in handy, huh? :thumbsup2)

Can I ask a question what is WL? I understand VGC, but not WL :goodvibes I am going to keep checking before I make a final decision. It is good to know that there are times that they become available :) If I can, I would LOVE to have a studio at VGC. It is lesser points and it would make things easier, but if I have to reserve DPP I will.

Thank you all for you help. It looks like it is coming together with our plans. Just have to get in shape now :rotfl::rotfl2::lmao:

WL is referring to the waitlist for the villas :).

We stayed at PPH last month and it was 39 points for a premium view. What are you seeing for 70 points in January 2012?

Ahhhhhhh!!! I see. I feel so dumb :lmao: I think that I will call them in the AM about getting WL.

I am seeing a standard view for 35 points per day at Disney Paradise Pier for the two days in January 27-29 2012. How many days did you stay?

We stayed just one night. By the time we called (like 5 days prior to arrival), there was only premium view/adventure/theme park available.

I was holding out for the VGC WL since January 2011 for June 2011. I waited until the last possible moment to book PPH. I wanted DLH, but it booked up the day before I called, so I took the PPH. The room was comfy and brightly decorated. Moving from the VGC was a pain and I wasted a lot of that day. Oh well. It's all good at DLR .

I think that is what I will do. I just sent a request for VGC WL (Studio) (In case I forget to call them in the AM). I will hold the WL until about a month or two out and then go with Paradise Pier. Hopefully, there will be availability either way. If not, I will be paying the price (Which I hope not, if I can avoid it). Since it is such quick trip, it will work out either way.

Thanks a bunch!!

There is limited availability with points. There could be rooms available for cash but not for points. Before VGC opened, I called to book a stay on points at GCH and even though there were cash rooms available on disneyland's website, there were no rooms available for points. I ended up staying at PP.

The other question is when is your Use Year. You cannot use your points to book the Disney Collections during the last four months of your UY and stay during those same months. Hopefully when you book and when you stay aren't both during the last four months.

Rule of four does not apply to Disneyland.

I think it does because when my mom needed a room last May, I have a June use year they made me borrow points even though I still had current year banked points and told me it was because it was the last four months.....I'm a newer member though so maybe I'm confused.

My use year is in August. So no worries there for January :goodvibes

That is good to know Debbie :thumbsup2

I figured that would be the case. I have no choice but to take my chances with the WL. If the points do not come through, I will try to rent Paradise Pier with my points, and if that does not come through, I will just pay for the nights. I might even go ahead and reserve the room just to be on the safe side.

This is the most awesome place to find information. Thanks again. If you have any additional information please share :thumbsup2

I am newer as well. A tiny bit over a year (April 2010) so I am still learning as well. :)

The MS CM must have been mistaken..this is from the website:

The Disney Collection
Please note:

•Rule of Four applies (excluding Disneyland® Resort Hotels in California and Tokyo Disney Resort®).
•All reservations are subject to availability.
•A non-refundable $95 transaction fee applies per confirmed Disney Collection reservation (excluding Disneyland® Resort hotels in California, campsites at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground in Florida, and Tokyo Disney Resort hotels).

I would agree that it is better to wait for awhile. Typically there is still availability. I needed a room at DLH two days before on the fourth of July and was still able to get it. However, if I were you, I would spend the extra points and stay at the DLH. I know it is for short duration, but the rooms are brand new. You may be surprised and your wait list will come through. Good luck.

I don't know about PP availability but I have booked DLH about a month before a trip with points and had no problem getting a room.

Well that's good to know thank you. I wish I would have known because it made it so I had to book a trip this Sep or risk losing the banked points...not that I enjoy the trip but still.
