To all non-driving virgins staying in the World:

Do you use the DTD check in or not? if so how do you lug your stuff down there? We ars stopping at POP so just wondering whether we should use DTD check in or just do it back at the airport-last time I went with Virgin, the bus didn't get us to the airport until 4.35 for a 6.15 flight which is a bit squeaky bum time as Sir Alex would say :lmao:

DD and I just got a cab from resort to DTD when we were there in 2005... :thumbsup2

Same for us, we just get a taxi from Pop to DTD, the hotel will call one for you, its not very far from Pop to DTD so it doesnt cost much. :goodvibes

We always end our holiday at the HRH - so i think it is a bit daft going all the way to DTD to drop off luggage...i am going to try and check-in online this year.

Hard Rock Hotel... :thumbsup2

Last trip we didn't want to waste our morning going to DTD so we just changed our transfer for an hour earlier and checked in normally, this trip we will checkin online from the hotel and use the bag drop. We then spent the morning swimming etc!

We tried to use DTD Check-in last October. Left the hotel in a taxi with all our luggage only to arrive at DTD to be met by a "Virgin Greeter" saying that the Check-in was not (nor would be) open that day - no explanation was given!

DH, DMum and DDad returned to the hotel with all our stuff again :headache: while DD and I spent our last few hours of vacation in our favourite place in the "world.":goodvibes

We came back last Friday and used DTD checkin at about 11.00 with one family in front of us. There was a major queue at the airport when we arrived there at 3.30 - wouldn't guess at numbers but it wound its way through the 'normal queuing area then down the side of the VA desks (airport people were making a break in the queue to let other passengers move across the airport)

Would definitely recommend using the early checkin

We've used DTD check-in once when we had no car, short 7 day extra trip for DW 40th birthday. We were staying at Dixie Landings (Port Orleans Riverside) and just got a taxi from the hotel to DTD. I can't remember the actual cost, but I'm sure it was less than $10 including tip, but the hotel is only 5 or 10 minutes from DTD. Whenever we've flown with Virgin we've used DTD check-in if it's been open, as the queues at Orlando airport can be massive. In the last three years we've used TCD and we also used their 'Freetime' check-in.

The idea of getting rid of your suitcases early on the last day is fantastic, it allows you to make the most of your last day - especially good if your flight isn't until the evening.

Just wanted to say when we checked in at the airport in 2005 there was no queue at all :confused3

we've used DTD check-in every holiday. It's such a relief to drop everything off and not having to waste that last day getting to the airport early for check-in. So far, we've always been involved with other excursions and stuff with Virgin on our last day, so have never, until this coming trip, had to provide transport to DTD. I suspect we will just take a cab.

As for the airport, we've had everything! We've been by and seen the queue snaking all the way through the 'normal barriers' and into the main walkway. But also, we've been past and the queue only had 4 or 5 families in it.

I guess second-guessing the crowds at the airport is as haphazard as guessing the crowds in the parks! :rotfl:

Last trip we got a cab from our hotel (The Dolphin) to DTD for when it opened. If you plan to stay in DTD remember the shops don't open until around 9 though. Although you can breakfast at McDs.

If you want to go to the parks you will need to go via a resort or get another cab.

Hi,
last year we had a awful cue at MCO. So would be interesetd in the DTD check in.
A few questions..........
where about in DTD is the check in?
How far from the car park, do you have to take your luggage and are there trolleys?

hpw much before the flight do you have to arraive? and where do you drop your bags?
thnaks

With the Online booking which can be done at the hotel is there ever a queue at bag drop? This would save DTD checkin and the queues at MCO!

The Virgin DTD Check In is at the rear of the Virgin Mega-Store near the Cirque theatre building. You will usually see a couple of vans parked near some undercover desks. It's right next to the carpark so you only have a small distance to drag your cases :)
Best to get there as it opens as lines do build up.

Once you have checked in your bags are loaded onto the vans and taken to the airport for you.

This means you only need to arrive at the airport in enough time to make it through security and get the monorail to the gate.
I would allow for traffic to the airport, delays getting through security if it's busy and some time for duty free shopping.

Dh and I have done the DD check in, it was so useful. We usually do the breakfast package too - which means we get picked up at our resort (with our luggage) taken for breakfast at the GF, which a character breakfast, and then transported to DD for the check in. I think it's about $40 dollars a head, but is a great way to end your trip. The only draw back for us has been that we got picked up from the resort at 7am. We did this for afternoon flights. It's really nice to have most of your day in WDW, rather than sitting around at the airport.

Once you have checked in at DTD how do you get to the airport?
Do Virgin ring Mears to pick you up at DTD and then take you or do you have to make your own way there?
What have you paid for the fare to DTD from your hotel was it less than $10?

We always use a Towncar transfer to and from the airport. We usually arrange to get picked up from our resort later in the in the day.

From the Dolphin to DTD I think it cost $20 including tip - although that was with one of the towncars that are at the Dolphin. It may be cheaper with a Yellow Cab - bell services at your resort will call you a cab.
