Non-DLR area hotel recommendations?

Hi folks, the SO and I are looking for a hotel recommendation that's near-ish to Disneyland but definitely not in the DLR area.

We're doing one of the upcoming Halloween parties and we'd like something not too far from DL (since we'll be leaving DL at midnight), but nowhere near the DLR (so as to avoid the absolute cluster of being near the DLR on a Saturday morning when we leave).

Something near the I10, 57, or 91 would be ideal. Any ideas/suggestions?

Have you tried looking at hotels in Fullerton? The 57 goes right by there, and Cal State Fullerton is there, so there are hotels in that area. (I think there's a Marriott right by the university that can be seen from the 57.) Fullerton is about 10-20 minutes north of the parks using Harbor.

That is a massive area you are describing. If you could be more specific regarding the location it would be easier to provide you with suggestions.

Not sure where home is for you and what direction your going too but I have found good deals at hotels near the airports. Sometimes I get great rates at SNA.

True - basically I'm looking for something out of the DLR area that's on the way back to Arizona. So... east and north?

I think it just depends how far you think you can make it before you need a room. I believe there is another airport going that way (Ontario I believe). Might be able to find a good rate and good hotel there. I have stayed in San Bernardino on my way to Arizona for Spring Training but that might be too far for you to drive.

The 10 and the 57 meet at Pomona. Its not to far from Disneyland but its outside of LA. Hotwire has a lot of good properties in Pomona for cheap.

Are you planning on staying at your hotel after the party? FWIW last year at the MHP it was crazy congested around the park. Tons of cars, long lines. I would think staying near the park would be ideal to get to the party and then sleep at a nearby hotel.

We were planning on staying in Palm Springs originally, but if we're leaving DL around midnight-ish, I don't want to drive 90 minutes... something closer to 3p minutes out would be preferable.

Pomona would probably be good, as suggested by a previous poster.

Depending on which freeway you plan to use to head to AZ, Anaheim Hills, Yorba Linda, or even Riverside might be a bit better than Pomona.

LilyJC choices are good, I thought Pomona was more western in travel distance than the above cities and great night driving, the more you drive east to Riverside, the less traffic.

Not sure what your concern is, most of the resort area hotels on harbor are a straight shot to the freeway and do not tangle with incoming traffic. If you stay close to M&F garage there may be traffic but there are plenty of options on Harbor or Katella with quick access to I-5 via Katella.

...but to answer your question, I have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Garden Grove which was nice.

I thought the same thing....but then....they are all hyped up about being in Disneyland all day.....and all that candy....how can someone go to sleep....so best to drive east for a few hours

No candy for us, chickapin! We are solely coming to the party to ride attractions - Halloween is our least favorite holiday and we're taking advantage of the limited number of park guests, most of whom will be engrossed in Halloween events!

I wouldn't want to be looking for my hotel in Pomona after midnight. Just saying. There are areas of Pomona I wouldn't even want to be in during the day. Depending on how tired you think you might be (and MHP can really tire you out!), I would either go with a hotel closer to DLR but not necessarily right by the park (so Garden Grove, Fullerton, Yorba Linda, Orange, etc.) or try to get to Ontario Airport, which isn't much further east than Pomona (off the 10 -- exits are Haven, Milliken, Archibald, Vineyard, etc.). ONT area might have the lower rates for one night.

I agree with theluckyrabbit. I grew up in Claremont which is just north of Pomona. I would not plan to stay in Pomona... it's cheap for a reason. The hotels near ONT would be a good option if you want to get a little farther, otherwise I'd agree with Fullerton/Yorba Linda etc.
