Whenever I'm blue, thinking that my next Disney vacation is impossibly far away, I have a list of "go to" movies that I'll watch. The usual suspects are on the list (Finding Nemo, The Lion King and Peter Pan to name a few), but there are also a slew of other non-Disney movies that I'll turn to. For some reason or other, these movies (mostly musicals) just scream "Disney!" to me:

Oklahoma! - I'm a sucker for any type of musical, but Oklahoma! especially puts me in a Disney mood. I think it goes back to February 2010: As I was walking down Main Street, I heard an instrumental for "Many a New Day" (You know, that piped-in music that you hear throughout the parks?).

The Wizard of Oz - Maybe it's because of the scene in The Great Movie Ride or maybe it's just because this film just makes me feel all sentimental and like I'm five years old again. :goodvibes

The Sound of Music - Another piped-in music tie-in: While leaving DHS one night in February, I heard "My Favorite Things". The film also stars Julie Andrews (Mary Poppins).

Meet Me in St. Louis - I think it's all the talk about the World's Fair. Reminds me of Walt Disney himself. And hey! My "Four Parks, One World" CD contains a snipet or two from "The Trolley Song".

National Lampoon's Vacation - The greatest spoof/homage to Walt Disney World and Disneyland ... Right down to the Walt Disney lookalike who finally boards the roller coaster with Clark and his family near the film's end.

The Polar Express - It's just so Disneyesque to me.

Jurassic Park - Slightly reminds me of the Dinosaur ride in Animal Kingdom.

Any of the Andy Hardy movies (Starring Mickey Rooney) - Reminds me of eating at the '50s Prime Time Cafe.

What are your non-Disney movies that put you in Disney mode?

These are really superb movies..!! I have downloaded almost all the of these movies..:cool1::cool1:

I just watched "Meet Me in St. Louis" for the first time over the holidays. While watching it, I kept thinking about Walt Disney and Main Street. I imagine it is very much like he lived. Also, Peter Pan 2003. It's very Disney to me, and Disney used the music in their promotion a few years ago.

Chitty Chitty Bang-Bang (with the songs and Dick Van ****, many people assume it's a Disney movie)

The Muppet Movie (although it's technically a Disney movie now, it wasn't when it was made)

:thumbsup2 I so agree with these!!

I'm so happy that you watched "Meet Me in St. Louis" over the holidays!!

I haven't seen Peter Pan 2003 in a long time. I'm going to add it to my queue on Netflix.

captain ron would be mine "you know pirates, the pirates of the caribbean..." love that quote lol

Particularly I mainly by Disney movies, but the other movies that I buy have something reminding me of Disney or has something that just is Disney-esque. Some movies are:

-Night at the museum (both the first and the second): These movies are disney-esque. Come on a museum coming to life at night, that just screams Disney.

-Over the Hedge: Not sure why but it feel Disney-esque to me.

Probably only National Lampoon's Vacation. Who can forget the Walley World National Anthem:

Who's the moosiest moose we know?
Marty Moose!
Who's the star of our favorite show?
Marty Moose!
M is for Merry, we're merry you see;
O is for Oh gosh, Oh golly, Oh gee;
S is for Super Swell family glee;
E is for Everything you want to be.
M - A - R - T - Y;
M - O - O - S - E.
What's that spell?
Marty Moose!
Marty Moose!
Marty Moose!
(Hyuk), that's me!

Do you know that was not the original ending? And when they re-shot the Walley World ending three months later Anthony Michael Hall had grown like three inches?

For me, it's the movie Thumbelina, and for two reasons.

Number one, it has the typical Disney plot! And not to mention, the voice of Thumbelina is Jodi Benson. Jodi Benson was the voice of Ariel in "The Little Mermaid" :D

Definitely "Night at the Museum". Every time we're on line for Dinosaur, at least one of my kids will say, "This reminds me of 'Night at the Museum'!"

I agree about "Over the Hedge", too.

:rotfl: I love the Walley World anthem!

I did not know that about the ending ... Thanks!

Several songs from that film are played in the background on Main Street. And if you like it partly for that reason, you should check out The Music Man (1962 version). First, it's an excellent film. Second, several of its songs are also played on and around Main Street USA -- "Iowa Stubborn," "Gary Indiana," "Wells Fargo Wagon," "Lida Rose" and possibly more, all from that one movie.

I absolutely LOVE The Music Man (1962)!! I actually watched the made-for-TV version with Matthew Broderick and Kristin Chenoweth on YouTube a few weeks ago. It was cute, Matthew and Kristin did a good job, but I prefer Robert Preston and Shirley Jones.

Now that you mention it, I remember hearing "Wells Fargo Wagon" while walking down Main Street. :goodvibes
