Hi everyone,

Im having my wedding at shades of green but was wondering if anyone has a website or knows anywhere where i can find cakes menus/prices from the GF or any other suggestions. Thanks so much.

Kim

We got a cake from the Yachtclub bakery to go with our dinner, and paid a lot less than the Grand was charging for the same cake. You just need to call the bakery themselves and ask for the head pastry chef. They will be able to help you with what you really want. The cake I wanted was going to be about $500 plus a delivery charge from the Grand to Yachtsman Steakhouse, but through the Yachtclub bakery it was about $175 and no delivery fee, because it was the on site bakery.

Hope this helps.

I believe the OP said she was having her wedding at Shades of Green, so she does not fall under the DFTW guidelines as far as wedding cakes. She can get her cake wherever she wants to.

My suggestion would be to call private dining at the GF and/or the Yacht Club bakery and see if they will fax/email you any pictures/pricing information. It seems that a lot of brides on this board have gotten information via email that includes pictures.

Good Luck & congratulations!

As far as I know, weddings that take place AT Shades of Green are not actually being done through DFTW. The same applies for weddings at the Swan. Just Marry handles those weddings, DFTW does not get involved at all. Even though those resorts are on Disney property DFTW does not handle weddings at those venues, therefor the DFTW guidelines wouldn't apply. I do not know what the official guidelines for Shades of Green or Just Marry are as I went through DFTW for my wedding.

Didn't realize (and still don't) that the OP said her wedding was being handled by DFTW. Shades of Green is not a Disney resort and I wasn't aware that DFTW handled the wedding at Shades. As with the Swan and Dolphin, they are on Disney property but not "owned and operated" by Disney.

Also, many brides and anniversary couples have been able to order a special cake from the GF or Yacht Club bakery.

I am not getting involved on the whole whether or not the GF or YC bakeries can deliver cakes. What I do know is that many places do not allow for cakes to be brought in fromt he outside. This is a huge liability issue for them.

I had a very formal Sweet Sixteen and a historic manor and a huge guest count. At that point, there was a cake that I had my heart set on. There was only one baker in the area that could do it. Unfortunately, the manor worked with only one baker- one not able to successfully complete the intricacies for the cake I'd wanted. That baker was the singular supplier of cakes for any event held at that location.

When it was explained to me as to why they only worked with this bakery it made perfect sense- the location and baker entered into a legal agreement. For example, the manor would have been the ones sued had they served contaminated cake, or if there was some type of problem with it. This baker was the only one willing to stand by and say "We'll take the fallout." I would doubt that a Disney restaurant would allow for a Publix cake, for example, to be served on their property.

When my Mom married last spring, we had a small reception at one of the nice hotels on the water in her area. We did bring in a cake from Publix- it was delicious and beatiful... but a PIA to carry and handle! She also had to sign a legal waiver form about bringing foor into the restaurant. This was in Florida, too.

I'm sorry that you may have found yourself in this situation. Being on government property AND Disney property could really put a damper on any plans. I would talk directly to the forces that be and find out exactly what you can and can't do. You may want to send an email so that you have it in writing.

i dont really know about the whole weddings thing, when i went to my site visit, when i mentioned theshades of green the wedding consultant said there are different rules for this as its not a DFTW? i didnt ask what the differences were though.

As for the cake however if someone is having a private event - not through DFTW then the GF and Boardwalk bakery can provide a wedding cake, i know several intimate brides have done this also for their "reception" afterwards!

Right, but are the Disney bakeries providing it to a Disney restaurant? SoG is *not* owned by Disney. It is owned by Army MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation). From Disney to Disney wouldn't be a problem. From Disney to the Army could be a problem.

I don't see how one would consider it a DFTW...

The cake i was referring to was actually delivered to a disney hotel (OKW) but again i dont know if it can be delivered to Shades or how much it would cost to be delivered there.

Like the others have said i would email and find out - that way you have it in writting!
