Non-Disney day...when/what part of day?

We are arriving in the afternoon of a Monday, leaving around noon-1p that Friday. Tuesday is our MM and Thurs morning is our CB. We do have MTTMM tickets but don't have to use.

I would like to take my DS to the beach...Venice Beach preferably but only because I have memories of going there and the vendors etc from high school basketball camp lol.

I would also like to take him somewhere he could see the Hollywood sign.
If there is a beach that is closer in proximity to ^^^ then I'm open to that suggestion as well..

I'm not sure he'd be too into Kodak Theater, the stars walk of fame or whatever and all of that though he's only 7 1/2.

Anyhow....which day of our trip would you go if it were you? And during what time of day to avoid traffic yet enjoy the beach?

How early do you arrive? Can you go to the beach from the airport in late afternoon? Then to Hollywood? You can see the sign from all over Hollywood and the cities around it. Then after Hollywood get some dinner and let traffic die down before going to Anaheim?

We are driving. We are leaving Roseville (near Sacramento) by 6:30..okay by 7am Stopping for lunch/gas around Lebec. Potty break as needed.

So, plan would be to be in LA area around 2pm. Once DS finds out we are going to DL not sure I can easily sidetrack him to Hollywood/the beach first hmm

How late would we have to stay in Hollywood area before traffic is easily drivable?

If you veer off of the 5 and get on 170/101 (after the grapevine), you'll be able to see the Hollywood sign from the freeway (if you turn around, that is!) It would also be fairly easy to get on and off 101 to go see it. 101 eventually hooks back up with the 5. Your other option (and maybe an easier one) is to stay on the 5 and get off at Griffith Park. Follow the signs to the Observatory and get out and take a look from there. You can see all of L.A., PLUS a REALLY GOOD VIEW of the Hollywood sign from there. Then get back on the 5 and head on down to Disneyland.

As far as beaches go, I'd head to either Huntington Beach or the Laguna/Newport Beach area. Venice is about 40 minutes away from Anaheim, if there's no traffic, and with younger kids, it can get a little racy.

First off; hello Roseville neighbor (from Lincoln, work in Roseville). I second the idea of Newport Beach; the beach is nice, you can rent boogie boards and if I remember right there are a few rides. Have fun!!!

Wellllll technically I'm from Oregon One of my dearest friends from high school now lives in Roseville so we are stopping for the weekend to visit her and her family

Since you're going in March, I'd hit the beach in the afternoon. It's probably not going to be warm enough to swim, but at least you could enjoy the sand and sun (if there IS some!) Newport would be a good solution, since there's a lot of stuff to do there (carnival area, etc.) in case it's too chilly to play on the beach for very long.
