Non-DIS tech support needed

This doesn't concern DIS, though it does kind of indirectly. On my PC laptop lately, while I'm surfing on DIS, my computer suddenly opens and logs on to AOL. This may happen when I hit Home on my browser, or reload or when I click on a link on DIS.

I've updated and run my virus software, Adware, Spybot, etc. and my system is clean as far as I can tell. Any ideas?

Did you check your AOL settings? You can deactivate an "automatic connection" box.

This advice is from my DH who is much more computer savvy than I. Do you have IM installed? If so, that may be what is causing the AOL page to pop up in your browser. Is AOL the program or is an AOL page coming up in your browser? I guess answering these first two questions is important before we're able to give you other suggestions.

The AOL program is opening and signing on (I have my password stored so it doesn't need to be manually entered to sign on).

If you're not using AOL anymore it might make sense to just remove the program from your computer. If you don't want to do that, unfortunately that's about the only advice I can give because I am not really familiar with AOL anymore. Remember, you can still get AOL mail without having the program. Hope this helps.

I guess that would work, though it doesn't explain why it is happening. Anyone else?
