Last year I bought a non-chemical sunscreen from Bain de Soleil that contained only zinc oxide and titanium dioxide as the sunscreen agents (it was labelled for kids). I phoned them and they no longer make it. I can't seem to find any other brand of non-chemical sunscreen available. Does anyone have a brand that they use - and where would I find it? Thanks

California Baby makes both a chemical-free sunscreen as well as a sunscreen/bug repellent product. We have both and they are great, go on very smooth! I got ours at babycenter.com.

I've used Baby Beach Blanket from Playskool. It only contains zinc oxide as the sun screen ingredient. I got it at Babies R Us.

Neutrogena (I am probably butchering the spelling...) makes a good one too. It is labeled for Sensitive Skin.

If you happen to be going on the Western Caribbean cruise and are going on the Xcaret excursion, they have it there, as they do not allow any chemical sunscreen to be brought into the park. At first I was very skeptical that it would work, as I burn very easily, but it was great! It's a shame it's so hard to find around here.

Would these non chemical ones keep from stinging little ones eyes? It never fails that when I put it on him, he ends up getting it in his eyes and the tears just roll! Even if I'm careful around his eyes, he'll end up rubbing his face on his arm, and then it begins again! Does anyone know what might not sting?

Kris, for faces I use one of those sunblock sticks...I "paint" designs on my daughter's face with the stick and she thinks it's cool. It doesn't run at ALL and there is no way it could irritate a child's eyes. :)

The non-chemical ones still sting, unfortunately, but Michelle's idea is what I do, too. Sometimes, I use the stick just around DD's eyes, and lotion everywhere else on her face just to make the stick last longer.

This is the best!!!
The Origins sunscreen for children. No chemicals. 30spf(which is honestly all they can offer), and no sting so far.
I have used this on my 3-year-old since she was born with great results. Disclaimer: She has very dark skin and tans beautifully through her sunscreen. The other "kid" sunscreens have let her have some red color, NOT Origins.
It even smells YUMMY and goes on a little white, staying on through 3-4 hours IN THE WATER! I wish I got a cut.
Try it you'll like it.

Don't forget about other alternatives like hats, long-sleeved clothing, and limiting your time in the sun. While these are obviously not condusive to a day at the beach, they are helpful day to day in limiting sun exposure.
