Non-alcoholic beverage

That is all that it says in the 2008 Dining Plan brochure. But I read this in the FAQ in this forum:

In the past, some restaurants and eateries (but not all) permitted selection of a smoothie or other specialty non-alcoholic drink in place of the standard beverage option in TS and CS meals. Jocelyn (phlufster) reports that a memo was circulated to all restaurants early in January indicating that that practice is no longer permitted. It is not yet clear to what extent this memo reflects the reality.

Does anyone know for sure what "non-alcoholic beverages" are permitted on the 2008 DDP? You would think if they would add "non-specialty" if they wanted to exclude some non-alcoholic drinks.

First I have heard of it, but now that you mention it, I dont believe any of the 08' dining reviews have mentioned getting a drink like a smoothie in place of a soft drink either. Guess I will have to pay closer attention.

Hmm... it's still very early in the year. It's possible no DISers who have used the DDP and are home already, ordered anything other than the basic beverages (coffee/tea/soda).

Have you checked the Dining Review board, see if anyone's posted any 2008 DDP experiences?

I asked this question when I made the dining reservations, and the CM said that we were allowed any non-alcoholic beverage that they offered. Specifically I commented on the bottomless milkshake at WCC and he said it was covered by the plan.

I am not sure, but I probably wouldn't trust the CM on the dining reservation line.

When making a reservation for Crystal Palace last week the CM specifically told me that gratuities were included in the price of the meal there. I called her on it and tried to correct her, but she was positive that they were and even said "Some are including gratuity now and some aren't" I pointed out that I am not using the DDP and have a DDE card, she again assured me that I wouldn't be expected to pay a gratuity there. She was wrong, and if I weren't a seasoned Disney Planning Fanatic, I'd be mad once I got to the restaurant and was charged an 18% gratuity.

Tricia, I understand that some CMs can be mistaken, but I spent an hour with this CM and he seemed to be very knowledgable about the plan and restaurants. Besides the plan says: "Single serving non-alcoholic drink." It doesn't say soft drinks only. It does say that it doesn't include glow cubes.

Just got back from a week on the DDP and all the places we ate offered smoothies, milkshakes and the non-alcoholic specialty drinks as a choice of the dining plan drink. The only thing that wasn't included was the drinks that came in a special souvenir cup.

My Dh and I ate at the 50's Prime Time Cafe, and we were allowed to get malts or shakes with our dining plan. Hope that helps

At Kona and Coral Reef, the smoothies are included (and the strawberry stinger at CR is great!). At Sci-Fi, milkshakes are a DDP eligible drink. Those are the only ones I've noticed so far, but I haven't asked everywhere either.
