Jedi Mickey's Hollywood & Vine Star Wars Dine
When the announcement was made that there would be some events on May the 4th I was super excited. We're never in The World for Star Wars Weekends and I am a big Star Wars fan. We adjusted our plans and I hopped right online to attempt to secure a reservation for one of the Star Wars dining experiences. I went for the H&V experience because I am a 10 year old and I wanted to see Mickey in his Jedi regalia!!!
Quick tidbit about May the 4th:
We made it to Hollywood Studios sometime around noon. I think Jim did RnRC and ToT. After that we scooted over to the stage area in front Sorcerer Mickey's hat. We were pretty close to the stage. As the event neared people started flooding in behind us. The little show was led by a Jedi and some lovely Jawas. There was a video played and lots of trivia. Jim won a Star Wars coin set...I can't remember what the question was. After the show we headed to one of the old studios just past
Pixar Place to buy our May the 4th t-shirts. This was a fun day and I'm glad we did it!!
Jim with his coin set.
I admit I was hesitant to book H&V as our last experience (a couple years ago) was less than stellar. But, if nothing else, we'd have the rare characters so I could justify it.
When we arrived the place was jamming! People everywhere. This was the opening day for the dinner. It was a madhouse with no particular system. The check-in podium was in the middle of the sidewalk...there was supposed to be a line but it was more like a swarm. Jim got us checked at a few minutes before our ressie time and we were told there was a "little" wait. 45, yes 45 minutes later we were finally called up to the stairs into another line! Ha! This one was another 10 minutes or so. I did feel really bad for the CMs...it was pretty clear management didn't have a clear plan quite yet.
So in we went into another line!

This one was a little quicker...almost too quick. It was for a picture with Ewok Chip & Dale. They were very cute as you can see in the pic. There was a nice backdrop, too. There was a Photopass photographer and a CM taking pics with your personal camera. Got that done and were escorted right to our table. There was a mom with her son at the table next to us. They were pretty low key which was a relief.
The placemats at each place setting were designed to be rolled up and used as lightsabers! Of course we had to join in! Soon our waitress, who was visibly distraught, came over for our drink orders. And we were free to hit the buffet when we were ready. She also advised us that Darth Goofy, Leia Minnie, Jedi Mickey, and Stormtrooper Donald would be around to visit. As we had bags and cameras we split up. I think Jim went up first. The food stations were really clean as were the floors (I always look at that stuff). I really wanted to get some pics of the actual buffet but there were just WAY too many people...I am sure I would have gotten some very dirty looks!!
I did make sure to take pics of at least my dinner plate. I can't seem to find Jim's plate anywhere in my pics! Hmph! Well we'll just have to go over mine! Clockwise from the top: Green Beans, BBQ Meatballs, Lobster & Shrimp Mac & Cheese, Plantain, roll, Caesar Salad.
Green Beans were great, sauteed in garlic and I'll assume olive oil. Yum! BBQ Meatballs were delicious. Just the right amount of BBQ..not too "saucy". Could've done a number on these! Mac & Cheese! Holy moley! If you are into this type of dish you'll love this. Loved the render shrimp and lobster. Great flavors and nice breadcrumb topping. Done really nicely. Umm...can I get some to-go?!?! Plantain...didn't dig the plantain...way to sweet and didn't care for the flavor. Didn't finish that. The roll was a roll. Crusty outside and soft on the inside. Caesar...a well done salad. Nice crispy croutons...flavorful dressing...fresh lettuce. I can't find any other pics of of dinner plates. I know I ate some carved turkey, mashed potatoes, and second helpings of the BBQ meatballs and Mac & Cheese. All of which were very good. Jim had the carved beef, roasted chicken, and most of the sides I had along with some other items. We both enjoyed our "entrees".
Now each time I traveled from my seat to the buffet and back I had to pass by the dessert area...which was no fault of my own.

I knew I wanted to save room for some of these treats for sure!
I will say that each one of the desserts I tried was very good and worth the calories. The Yoda cupcake was my fave followed by the chocolate covered strawberries! So good! The strawberries were super fresh and juicy!
Clockwise from the top: chocolate covered marshmallow, Darth cupcake, Yoda cupcake, chocolate covered strawberries...and that's a mini-whoopie pie in the middle.
Jim's desserts clockwise from the top (he doesn't remember what everything is

) chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate covered marshmallow, Darth cookie, Darth cupcake, he thinks the next one is rice pudding with an oreo on top, and the next is a R2-D2 cheesecake. I cannot vouch for any of those!
Overall we enjoyed this experience. At the cost of $56/person I don't think we'd do another one just like this. We really enjoyed the food and booked a ressie for our upcoming trip. It was fun to see the characters in their Star Wars gear. They spent ample amounts of time with each table...no one seemed rushed in the least. I would recommend trying this at least once especially if you or your kiddos are Star Wars fans.
Thanks as always for reading along!!
