Noise Reduction

Noise reduction is done via blurring. A noisy and blurry photo is going to be very difficult to deal with. Here's my attempt.

I used, Noiseware Community Edition, and the unsharp mask in PhotoShop to try to get back some of the edge detail and contrast.

I don't know how you use your pictures but sometimes I just salvage mine by using PSE (Photoshop Elements) to 'posterize' or apply special effects or filters. The first picture actually uses some of the noise as an advantage. Here's a couple examples.

I want to start posting some pics I took with my new S5 IS while in Florida for a month but some of them have some noise issues. Does anyone have any knowledge of any free programs that would reduce Noise in my photos or of a program that is not too expensive?

But this year I upgraded to the Standard version because I take a ton of photos of my kids during their marching band competitions and I wanted the batch feature - worth every penny to me since it takes forever to do the photos one at a time.

i'm looking at noise ninja vs noiseware...i have the free noiseware but am thinking of upgrading so i can do batch processing..i like it but wonder if anyone has a reason to get noise ninja instead...i think i tried the freebie for nn a while ago but it would only process part of the photo so not much help to determine who is better...any opinions would be most appreciated Thanks

I started on Noiseware, but ended up with Noise Ninja. The main advantage for me is that it works as a plugin to Photoshop, so I don't need to leave Photoshop to do noise reduction

I can't really help though. I use Neat Image, which appears to be out of fashion with most these days.

neat image is the one i had the download for( all these "n"s are confusing the issue) so guess i'll download noise ninja and try it..what is lightroom's noise program like, still need something else? ...pse5's is ok for something like 100iso ( )but i'm looking for something for low light ones that need some help-

Do you like Neat Image more than Noise Ninja and Noiseware? If so - why?

Noiseware is also avaiable as a PS plugin.

From my little bit of playing with each, I prefer Noiseware, but I suspect that with a little bit of tweaking, you could get similar results out of either.

At this point, if I need to do noise reduction, I just use the tools in Lightroom - they won't clean up an image like the others, but they help, and I would rather have a little bit of noise but retain detail.
