noise reduction ear muffs?

has anyone ever used ear muffs/protectors to reduce the noise level in WDW (for either yourself or for little ones)?
on previous trips, my kids were very disturbed by the intense volume of many of the shows and rides like little mermaid, philharmagic, buzz lightyear, etc. i know some of this is age appropriate (they were there at 2, 2 1/2, and 3 y.o.), but they are, in general, overly sensitive to loud noises. (they don't like the dark rides, either, but we've solved that with glow bracelets.)

we thought about ear plugs--much cheaper--but we couldn't imagine being able to keep those in their little ears, so i found some that have a N(or something) 22 rating , so i'm hoping these will help the kids enjoy significantly more experiences than they have in the past.

we've been "practicing" wearing them at home, so the kids will be used to them next week (my ds LOVES them...i have to wrestle them off of him!), and we've done some minor noise "tests" with them on with great success, but i know there is no comparison to me banging a hammer on a piece of wood to the intense volume of the buzz ride!!

Ear plus are better and do not make you hot.

I always carry sets of disposable ear plugs. I buy them from Grainger. The ones on the URL page listed below have hard blue stems to make putting them in sanitary and easy. I can also adjust how much sound I want to block out by adjusting them in my ear. They are very comfortable as long as they are not jammed in too tight. Even if they just gently rest in my ear opening, they will still block about 10 DBS, which is often times enough. I wash them with soap and water to clean them.

I carry a bunch of them so if I drop them I just leave them and use another.

I always wear them on Dinosaur, Rockin Roller Coaster, at the end of Circle of Life and at concerts.

I also always wear them or good ear muffs when I vacuum or mow the lawn around the house. At 43, my hearing is nearly perfect.

If you have a Grainger in town, stop by and see if they have a sample for you to test with your children.
