Noise level at Ohana's?

Going in October with DH, DS 25, and my dad who's a very young 81... so no kids in the bunch.

I'm concerned about the noise level, the menu looks perfect for us (DS & DF especially) but a noisy atmosphere is just not Dad's thing :headache:

What do you all think? Is the noise that bad... would a later adr help?

Been to 'Ohana several times and I would say the noise level is moderate. Not enough to be a bother, but not really a quiet meal either. I think our worst meal (as far as noise level goes) was Narcossee's.

Noise level at a restaurant just ruins the whole meal for me - so I understand how your dad feels. 'Ohana's is not so bad, but you may want to ask for the side dining room rather than the main room. If you are looking into the restaurant, it is the right side of the restaurant.

Some REALLY loud places to avoid:

Boma - ceiling is high as the place opens upward to the lobby of AKL
Chef Mickey's
Planet Hollywood - don't know from personal experience, but others have said
Pizza Planet - CS at HS
Rainforest Cafe

We ate dinner there and we were seated on the rear of the restaurant, behind the bar area and we could hear the music and the singer and the kids and the kids did have a little parade around the restaurant....I thought it was fun and didnt think it was too noisy

Now for breakfast that is a different story...we always go to Kona and the noise level from Ohana is insane! Must be because the kids are so wound up first thing in the am and the characters are there.

Ohana is rather noisy, but thats to be expected. Like Niki said more so in the a.m. for b'fast. Don't let the noise level deter you though, this place has great atmosphere.

If you really want to eat there, I would suggest asking for a table away from the main action. We had a 6:00 pm ADR. We were right smack in the middle of the action. The noise level was so bad, we couldn't even carry on a conversation. Even my kids thought it was too much. :sad2:

'Ohana not a quiet meal. They have dancing and "races" for the children. While the entertainment isn't going on, it's not so bad. If you ask to be seated away from where all that takes place, it would be better.

It's fairly loud, but that probably depends on where you are seated. I do recall a time when there was singing and activity when we couldn't hear each other speak.

You could request a table farther away from the activity to avoid that.

'Ohana (apostrophe at the beginning, no S on the end) is a family place,m so there is quite a bit of noise on any normal night. It's not as loud as a night club, but it's noisier than a quiet romantic place.

Getting an ADR for close to closing is almost always quieter than the middle of the evening, but that might mean eating dinner pretty late.

I agree with some of the others. Our table was near the corner of windows on the right side looking in. The entertainment was on the other side of the restaurant. But the (only so-so) singer's mike piped through the whole restaurant so we didn't talk much when she was performing. And that seemed on and off again about every 10-15 minutes.

The overall noise level (talking) is not that bad. But we felt the entertainment was loud. Does that make sense?
