I am really close to adding on at HHI. The only thing holding me back is that I just found out that some people have reported problems with paper-thin walls. That is one of my pet peeves--hearing my neighbors. I am a light sleeper, and I also like a quiet, peaceful vacation. We stayed at HHI in July and never had any problems, but we were on the top floor (no one above us). Before I add on, I would like to hear from anyone directly who has had either a problem with noise or none at all. TIA!

We have stayed at HHI 3 times twice on the top floor with no problem but this past august we were on the first floor and I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown. There were small children above us who would wake up at 6 am and blast the tv and run around literally sounded like a herd of elephants. It wont keep me from going back but I will request the upper floor next time.

We've stayed at HH 5 or 6 times. I've never noticed sounds coming from the villa next to us - only overhead. When we've been in 1BR villas underneath a Grand Villa - it has been really loud. Now, we generally stay in 2BR villas. If I were you, I'd always request to be on an upper floor. We just got back from a week-long stay and were in a 2BR on the first level. I believe two nights I was able to hear the people above me walking around. One night it woke me up, but I had gone to be fairly early, the other night I was in bed watching tv - so it was not a disturbance. Several years ago, we spent a girls weekend in Hilton Head and I was hoping to impress my friends with DVC. The people above us sounded like elephants and one of my friends still to this day refers to how loud the villas are.

We are the family that has the 3 elephant kids....I always request lower level. I know, without a doubt, that I would be annoyed having us overhead.

To avoid the issue, it is first floor only.

I have never had a problem getting the request.

Do they have studios on upper levels?
In the main lodge buildings there are studios on every floor, including the top (some of the views are awesome). However, there are 5 studios elsewhere (buildings 16,18,19.28, and 31, I think) and they're all of the first floor. And some of those are under grand villas-very loud, sometimes.

Hmm...we've had three week long summer visits to HHI and have not had noise issues at all. Last time we had a GV so no one above us, but the times before that we've had one bedrooms in the main lodge area with no noise problems and people above and beside us. Love our HHI!!!

Thanks for the information! Does anyone else have any input? I'm possibly buying tomorrow, but I'm still hesitant because of this one issue.

Not sure if you've made your decision or not, but I just stayed in a studio on first level bldg 16 in Aug. I can honestly say I never heard any noise---at least not anything that I haven't heard at any other DVC resort. Found it quite peaceful actually. Would have loved a marsh view (bet they're even quieter), but our view (from our front door and bathroom window) was that of the marina which was nice. The view from our balcony was of an inner courtyard area with walkways. Found it very quiet.

My only complaint was we couldn't really sit out on our balcony in the rain because the water dripped down on our heads from the floor above. The balconies are wooden. But that really was my only disappointment. Best of luck with your decision.

Thank you for the additional input! I actually added on 50 points a couple of hours ago! :yay: Your post makes me feel like I made the right decision. I've been checking resale for quite some time with no luck. I just decided to add on through Disney, a little more expensive at $80/point, but tomorrow I get to make my reservation for my 20th anniversary trip there next July! :lovestruc We are going for a studio and I was afraid it would be too late to get one if I didn't go ahead and get my points now. (The 7-month window is approaching.)

I will definitely request top floor. It might be hard getting that request with a studio, but after next year, my whole family will be going every other year, and we will be staying in a 2 BR. I feel like I will have a better chance getting a 2 BR on the top floor since there are so many.

Thanks again everyone for your help!!!
