And who can blame them.

I'm trying to find temporary housing for when we sell this house and before the new house is done in September.

Try asking a landlord..."Can I get an apartment for just 4 or 5 months for my family, my dog, my cat and my hamster??"

They laugh!!!

Ugh...we are going to wind up living in a van down by the river with our stuff in storage!

Marriott has extended stay places. I think they let you stay 3 months and then you have to change rooms....., or "something" like that....

Lol...after the dogs in hotel rooms thread...I'm SCARED!!!! :scared1:

Maybe dogs can be left with someone, and then later shipped or picked up?

Check with your real estate company and see if they have any temporary rentals, many do for people in your situation. There are also corporate relocation companies that have short term rentals where you pay a flat fee and it includes everything, rent, utilities, etc. They are usually furnished so you can put your things in storage and not have to worry.

We've stayed at the Residence Inn with our iguana and German shepard, but it isn't cheap. We were on a company paid relo, so it was free for us. Maybe someone who's trying to sell their house will rent it to you. (Great, I just realized you'd probably have to keep it perfectly clean so that they could continue to show it...) Please come back and let us know what happens. We might be in the same boat soon. :sunny:

When we moved and had to wait a month to get into a house we left the animals with my parents. I didn't like to do it, but for us, it was the only solution!

Here in Ma they have short term furnished apartments for rent for situations like yours. As another poster mentioned talk to your realtor.
Good Luck

We're moving in with my parents :scared1: during the time between us selling our home and buying another!!!

Have you checked with the builder? Our builder actually owns several apartment buildings & will give month to month leases to those waiting for their new home. :)

We had a similar situation 2 years ago. We moved into an apt. complex which allowed us to live there on a monthly basis. We were there for 5 months. The apts. were owned by a large apt. company, which did rentals for corporations that needed short term housing for employees (corporate leases).

Keep looking. You should be able to find something in Redmond or nearby.

However, I will say that we didn't have a dog. Just kids and a hamster.

Have you already sold your house? We waited to sell our house until after we moved into our new house. We weren't buying a new house, but knew that it would be too hard to find a temporary place to live with all our kids and pets (and that's when we had less pets than we have now) and it worked out very well. It was a hot housing market and we figured the house would sell fast, which it did (had an offer in a week). We could then show the house without us in it making a mess, which was a lot easier. Houses might show better with furniture, but in our case this was a LOT better.

Would buying a camper work out well for you? Since it looks like you need a place for the summer months, maybe you could buy a travel trailer and set it up at either the new house, outside a relative's, or in an RV park (the RV parks around me are like resorts...pools, activities..). At the end of the summer, you could sell it to get some of your money back, or you could keep it for future trips.

We're not looking foward to that part of our move either. My family are not avid pet lovers so leaving them with any of the family members would be out of the question. We can't buy then sell, since we're using our equity in this one to buy the next one.

*mental break...if the guy without the muffler doesn't quit driving by the house I'm going to shoot him and then I'll have a room in the big house LOL*

Okay, now back to what I was saying (just that he drove it by 3 times...how irritating!).....we have looked at a lot of new constructions and a few of the builders are interested in buying our home for a rental, so that might turn in to an option.

Luckily my husband has done HVACR work for 15+ years and he knows a lot of apartment/duplex owners that would probably rent to us with our dogs for a limited time. Just hoping things work out so that we're not stuck for months with stuff in storage.

We had luck using a large rental company. They have LOTS of apartment buildings in town and they were willing to let us use one for 3 months versus having it sit empty. It depends what the rental market is too. Obviously in our town there were too many rental places.
The place we ended up at was a 3 bedroom, 2 bath with garage and a secure entrance. We did have to put our stuff in storage but that's not as hard as you'd think.

My sister, DH, and 2 children have been staying at a Residence Inn which has been wonderful!!! They have breakfast every morning and some nights have themed dinners (mexican) and they had a superbowl party!!!

They have been there over 2 months and will be there for at least another 2 weeks. Their house was being fixed after it practically fell down (very scary).

They are now exempt from hotel taxes because they have been there so long. :thumbsup2 Who would have thought?

I'd love to wait to sell our house...but then I'd have to take two loans on the next house...not a huge deal, but still a deal.

Also, isn't it harder to sell in September/October?
