Nobby's Gnomies... heading to WDW in April 2010

Boy, 20 hours away from the boards and everything falls apart! Alright girls, I just bought a 6 pack of hard lemonade for tonights picnic:

  • I will drink 1 for Julez to mourn her cancelled trip (but you still have Captiva in July and gnomefest with ME in April to look forward to)
  • I will drink 1 for C to mourn the loss of this DVC contract (but others will come along I know it)
  • I will drink 1 for Stacy to sympathize a craptastic day at work (still got my fingers crossed on another great job for you)
  • 1 will drink 1 for LL and her frustrations over making a decision about school and loans (I know it will all work out in the end)
  • 1 will drink 1 for Jess as she awaits the results of her allergy test (hope it's not a big deal)
  • The last one will be to celebrate all the great things we have in our lives including each other! I love my gnomies!!!!

Aw Katie that was an awesome speech about drinking to your gnomies!! Hope you have a good picnic tonight!

Julez-I am SO sorry about your trip.:sad2: At least like Katie said, you do still have your trip in July and Gnomefest, but I understand, any potential trip that gets cancelled is a let down, especially this one :sad1:

C-MAN! No DVC!? That sucks. Maybe you're right though, maybe the money is supposed to go elsewhere. Let us know how you're feeling later on today!

As for the allergy test, it wasn't that bad. But, I am allergy to dust mites. Now that I think about it, it makes sense because I was always breaking out in hives in the college dorms at Salisbury and never could figure out what it is. I guess now I know right? And it could be worse!

That is so sweet of you and well said! :grouphug:

So what do they do for you when you are allergic to dust mites?

Well, he said that no matter how much of a clean freak you are, you're going to have some in your home. Unfortunately he said I have 2 strikes against me already...a deviated septum and the allergys on top of it. But, he said, buy dust mite proof pillow and matresses covers, you can get them at walmart or bed bath and beyond. Try and keep the humidity down low in your house, vacuum more often, take the prescriptions I'm on and the biggest thing is to try and stay away from wall to wall carpeting, although our whole apt is covered except for the kitchen and bathroom, so I guess I'm moving my dust mite free pillows to one of those locations to sleep :rotfl:
I guess it's just one of those things you can't fix completely :confused3

I have seen the dust mite proof pillowcases before. I guess when you find out where you will be working and moving, then you will have to look for non-carpeted apartments! :rotfl:

I guess so! I've always told Blake that I hate hardwood floors, and I want our house to have carpeting, I think it makes things cold and I like sitting on the ground in the living room to play games or cards. Man..I guess I have to get the darn hardwood now!

That does stink. What about throw rugs that can be aired out? Would that be better?

What a bummer! :headache: I'm sorry, I am sure an even better contract will come up. :thumbsup2

Thanks, LL!

That's perfect, Katie! I could do with a 6 pack myself this evening! ;) But seriously - very well said and I'm very grateful for my gnomies! I'm certainly disappointed but not terribly so. I was starting to get anxiety around such a big purchase anyway. Maybe I'll get a flat screen TV instead...:rolleyes1

It does stink but I'll be fine. I still get to go this year and I know how lucky that makes me!

On the dust mite issue what about getting one of those HEPA filtration systems? I don't know if they are bogus or what but I see them advertised in the Sharper Image catalog and stuff. :confused3

Another craptastic day at work!

 Sorry Stace!!! I've been praying that a new one will turn up for you:hug:

Trip cancelled. I need a cocktail.

 Sorry Julez!! That is truely 'craptastic' :sad1:

Well, Disney decided they want to exercise their right of first refusal and buy the contract I wanted. :headache:

So it's no DVC for me... At least not now.

Oh well. Everything happens for a reason! Must be something else coming for me to spend my money on!!

I'm really suprised they did!! Well it does help keep the value of them intact:rolleyes: At least now that you've tried...it will not seem as scary the next time a 'perfect' resale comes along. plus, you know that you'll have to up the ante a bit from this time... although sellers are motivated right now, so you can definately bargain for 'intangibles' such as seller paying closing costs...... Disney doesn't really have to know about that ;)

Jess I hope that your tests go well... I never wanted hardwood floors either...til I got them.... They are so much easier to keep clean, especially from the puppy hair... you walk thru the room and WOOSH! all the fur flies to the corners and then you vacuum it up with the hose LOL!!:lmao: Seriously though...at least get your bedroom done, my brother has 'allergy induced asthma' and since he removed the carpet from his bedroom... he hasn't had a single attack! It's been about 2 years:thumbsup2

Love you list katie!! I'll have a drink to my beaten up/beaten down gnomies tonite too.... i'd have 1 for each of you...but I'll be under the table after the 2nd one:rotfl:

I guess I'll need to start working on my wine tolerance to keep up with you C ;)

Hi LL and MM!! And CP...whereever you are!

I LOVE you gals!!!!
Paula

Ugghhh Katie's right what a gloomy day!!

Julez...I'm sorry to hear about your trip especially about situations beyond your control. But as many of the fine ladies before me have mentioned you have your July vacation and Gnomefest and you can really really make Gnomefest a huge blow out!!

C...boo to the not getting the contract. But you have a good head on your shoulders and like you said it wasn't meant to be and as we all know that just means something even better is waiting around the corner for you to discover!

Well my conference is over, just in time for me to head to visit my mom for a couple of days. I'm going to work on finishing my TR in the car tomorrow as we drive the 15 hours to the house where I grew up!! I will definitely be in the texting mood if any of you wish to be entertained by me LOL!!!!

Love you all!!!!!:banana::banana:

Hey guys... thanks for all the virtual hugs and well-wishes. I know my Gnomies always got my back!

Jim went to the bank today and made a big scene and threw money in the manager's face and it'll show as closed in the morning, I guess. Good! A-holes!

But one good thing is that it finally motivated me to put a bunch of stuff up on ebay that I've been wanting to get rid of! Yay me!

K- I LOVED your list! Yes, please drink with me in my mourning!

C- Sorry about DVC, but I will say, we have a flat screen and it's sooooooo nice to look at and watch movies on.

Love all of you my Gnomies! I really can't wait for Gnomefest- as Jess said- it will really be a blowout trip for me now!

Hey Gnomies,

Sounds like we're all having a pretty rough day huh? A friend of mine found out today that she is five months pregnant (and she had noooooo clue), and she's decided to give the baby up for adoption. She is just a mess and I don't know how to help...:confused3 I can't imagine what she must be going through. It makes my problems seem pretty small.

Julez - I'm sooooo sorry to hear about your trip. That really sucks. But you know, Gnomefest isn't that far away! You are a responsible woman and are doing the responsible thing. Have a cocktail and hug your kids and I'm sure you'll feel a bit better. And soon enough you'll be having cocktails with your Gnomies in April!

Katie - Beautiful toast darling! That is very very sweet! I raise my coca-cola to you for being a great friend and spectacular Gnomie! You are a great person.

C - I'm sorry to hear about your DVC contract but I'm sure something great will come your way! Perhaps Andreas will just invite you to stay with him! ;) And flat screens are nice too!

Jess - you'll love hardwood floors! I got mine about a year ago and I adore them! They are so much easier to keep clean and they look great! They were a switch from carpet and tile and they're so much better. I'm glad the test turned out ok!

P - Thanks for your nice thoughts! You're a great friend!

JenJolt - I hope you have a safe trip!

I hope the sun shines a little bit more for everyone tomorrow. I'm glad we all have each other to share our woes (and victories) with. You all deserve nothing better than the best! :grouphug:

Have a good night Gnomies! Luv yas!

Yeah, in all honesty, I knew there was NO way I was actually going to drink all 6! I figured 2...maybe 3. I ended up stopping after 1, just wasn't in a mood I guess. Luckily, I started with the last one in celebration of all of you!

Jess, I love hardwood floors too! I was a little worried about the coldness (winter in Iowa + poorly insulated floors is not a great combo!) but we have a couple large area rugs in our living areas and I don't really notice it in the kitchen. It works out! I have a friend with dust mite allergies and other than having to bring her own pillow wherever she goes, it doesn't seem to be a huge issue.

Yay for the conference being over Jen! Make sure you have a safe ride back and enough your next few days with your mom!

Stace hang in there girl! Just be your wonderful supportive self for your friend and we'll be here if you need suggestions or to get some of the strain off!

Julez-So sorry again about your trip..sounds like Jim had one in for the bank manager. So glad to hear about ebaying though! That's how we make most of our Disney money. I still get surprised for what some of the stuff I have goes for! And it adds up quick too! :thumbsup2

Thanks for all your suggestions about the hardwood floors girls! I guess you're right LL, maybe smaller sections of carpet like area rugs would be better so I could still have some carpet. :woohoo:

Hope you're all having a wonderful night!

Thanks Katie! I had never heard of it before! My biggest thing was always the dorms, thankfully I only lived there for 2 out of my 4 years, I can't begin to tell you how many times a week I ended up with hives all down my back and arms. Now having our own place, it does make things easier!

Morning Gnomies!

HAPPY FRIDAY!!

I am so excited this week is almost over. :woohoo: For surviving my first week back to work, I bought myself a Tropicana Coolatta from Dunkin Donuts, YUMMY!

Anyone have fun plans for this weekend?

Gnomies!

So quiet today! What's up? :confused3 No plans for the weekend. Just chill-axing. And maybe ADR planning/plotting. :rolleyes1
