Nobby's Gnomies... heading to WDW in April 2010

I finished morning chores and took a shower. I have been camped out in front of the computer since -- did a little update and watching weather radars. I had really hoped my travel documents would come today, but, alas, nothing but the phone bill.

I'm waiting for the mail to get here. I joined netflix for the express purpose of renting The Tudors. I am waiting for Disc 1, I also threw in The Other Boleyn Girl for good measure! :lmao:

Oh, that sounds like a couple of good things to watch!!!

I'm very excited. I am so totally enthralled with The Tudors right now it's not even funny. I really need to get my butt to the library and join so I can get some more books. I am just about to finish The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory.

I have them written down to read this summer. I am in love with the Blackbird Sisters series right now -- I am about to start my fourth one!

Hi gnomies! We are enjoying unexpectedly good weather here in New England. It was supposed to be rainy but the sun is out! CP- how's the weather in GA? I hope unexpectedly good for you as well!

So my friend just sent me a note that her daughter (who's in high school) did not achieve a certain academic milestone that she had really wanted to achieve. And many of her other friends did. Since she found out yesterday, the poor thing has apparently hardly stopped crying and is basically curled up in a ball. My friend is almost equally upset and at her wits end not knowing how to help her daughter. I feel awful! How do you give a teen the perspective that it really isn't going to matter later in life? :confused3

Oy to the vey, ladies. I thought high school was bad enough the first time around. The thought that I may have to live through it again with my own kids is almost terrifying! :scared:

I have to be honest, this is one of the reasons I'm glad to have boys. I had a REALLY hard time from about 5th grade up through 9th grade. Terrible years, girls that age can be SO mean. Boys mature later but girls seem to struggle much more emotionally.

Glad you are having a nice day, we finally have some heat and sunshine for the first time in awhile and the flowering bushes and trees look so pretty! This week I'm going to have to stop at the church where Greg and I got married. We planted a flowering tree there the night before our wedding and it's always so nice to visit it near our anniversary and see how it has grown

Poor Girl. I hated high school, it was horrible. I wish I had listened to my parents in high school, they were so supportive but I thought they were idiots. I don't think I'd have half the self esteem issues I do if I had just listened to my parents and trusted them. :sad2:

The weather is really nice here. I thought it was going to be a dreary day.

I just watched Bride Wars. It was cute.

Did you like it LL? I've been wanting to rent that one since I've seen pre-views on tv the past few days.
SO sorry to hear about your friend's daughter C-I hated high school as well. Unfortunately nothing can really make her forget about the missed achievement, but maybe your friend can do something special for her. Do a little mini-mother/daughter day with things that she enjoys to try and get her mind off of it.

I went in this morning to do something for my research, but it takes 12 hours to set up, so Blake has been shackled to the table studying and I've been with the dog on the sofa reading Sookie Book 3 :thumbsup2
I have a few more chapters to go and decided it was about time I got a shower :goodvibes

Are you liking the 3rd book?

I'm trying to motivate myself to make the tshirts. Also to set up my new hummingbird feeder.

LL, how are your feet? I wanted to share that I should take my own advice :sad2: All last week I was thinking my back felt "off" and I should make an appointment with the chiropractor. Well, I didn't make it a priority. This morning when I was getting ready, I was getting my hair wet (standing outside of the tub, bent over, head under the shower) when all of a sudden I felt a pop in my back and I about fell over! :scared1: I could barely get myself back into an upright position. Of course I had no choice but to suck it up, pop 4 advil and go to work. The blinding pain has reduced to a dull ache. I am currently sitting here with a heating pad and waiting for the next round of drugs to kick in (and wondering if it's too early to take one of the vicodin I have left over from my car accident last fall).

Oh no, Katie! That's awful. I hope you are feeling better.

My feet are still bothering me. I am absolutely calling the doctor on Monday. I haven't been walking because they hurt which is just going to hurt me when I get down to Disney. :guilty:

So guess what gnomies...I just heard on the evening news that there are 6 probable cases of swine flu among kids in our town. Schools will be closed for at least 1 week. I knew we would be first in Iowa!

Yikes, a whole week!!! :sad2:

Oh my goodness! 6 suspected cases? Wow.

Congratulations on being first? :confused3 Ugh. That stinks. That just extends the end of school, right?

LL- so sorry your feet still hurt. Definitely get it checked out before WDW! And for WDW keep in mind that a nice pedicure/massage might be just what the Dr. ordered! :rolleyes1

How are the other gnomies this evening?

I'd really like a pedicure before Disney. I am going to try to fit one in.

So sorry about your back Katie!! Hope you feel better quick!!:flower3:

We had 4 suspected cases in Maryland yesterday. 4 in 4 seperate counties, all surrounding counties of ours, and they closed all the schools involved, they're saying for up to 14 days. The one school is about 25 minutes from us...boy, I'm glad I'm not in high school anymore :sad2:

Greg just got called from the principal because he is the science department head so he has to pass on the official word to the other science teachers. The president of the school board has already talked to the head of Iowa's Department of Education about a waiver on those days to allow them to not have to make up the days (they already are going until June 12) the governor ultimately makes the decision on the waiver.

It sounds like the 6 cases in our town are 99% likely to test positive, some of them school age kids. They will not allow teachers to even enter the building until Wednesday while they disinfect.

 I will be interested to see if the teachers have to make up those days -- even if the kids don't have to.

Any word on whether those students were recently in Mexico?
