No wbta 2013

It's not a cult, it's a movement. The Disney Magic Westbound Transatlantic Anti-Massacree Movement. And all you have to do to join is sing it the next time it comes around on the guitar. With feeling.

:rotfl2::thumbsup2

We will be new to the group and a TA. I love the idea of having two weeks to relax with my family with some busyness thrown in!

Packing for it intimidates me, but I'm hoping that all will be fine! (We are thinking just carry-ons and doing laundry after reading about lost luggage!)
I had the same worries about lost/late luggage and we managed with just carry-ons. The key is to pack separates in coordinating colors and mix & match.

What were some things that people did in Madeira? We took the hop-on, hop-off bus to tour around and then did the Brandywine visit. Just curious as to what else we could look forward to! :)

We did the Santa Maria sailing and thought it was a lot of fun. We just walked to their office at the end of the pier and bought tickets, as the Disney excursion was wayyy over priced on this one. The only difference I could see was that the Disney group boarded first, so they got the pick of the seats. No biggie, as the view was great from everywhere. I suppose if there were a ton of people booked with Disney we may not have got onboard.

Oh, yes! We really enjoyed checking out the houses and gardens. And we made sure we bought return tickets that time! (Unlike Gibraltar - schlepping down that freakin' rock. But that's another story. At least I didn't get mugged by the apes - like some people we know. ;) ;) ) And Margaret, you definitely were NOT drinking at the bar/restaurant at the tram station, no matter what anyone says.

No it doesn't. It ends up in Kirby the Bear's newsletter. Kirby sees all, tells all. Bwah-ha-ha!

Not mugged Pat, just pick-pocketed

As we have so many returning cruisers on this sailing maybe we could call the thread WBTA 2013 Transatlantic: Where everybody knows your name & we're always glad you came!

I am sooo glad you are all so close and have so much in common... but now I am wondering if I will be a major outcast on this WBTA ?? I have always wanted to do this and will literally be saving every spare penny to do this, but maybe we should look at EBTA. I know my kids will find it more difficult due to the time change but I already feel kinda awkward because I ca't join into the conversation as it is a "been there, know the joke" kinda thing....

I'm new too! It's just a matter of jumping in.

I was a little worried at first too, as it seemed like everyone knows everyone else. BUT, what will happen is by the time we sail - you WILL sort of know everyone.

What ended up happening for me so far is that a few people have joined that I "sort of" knew as we were all on another cruise meet thread for a cruise I ended up changing. So I have not sailed with them ...yet.

Just think of this as a whole bunch of friends you haven't quite met in person yet.

Just jump in. We jumped in in the last WBTA. There were so many who knew eachother from the EBTA or the 2010 WBTA.
And this was about 6 months before sailing. So you have plenty of time to catch up.
And on the ship we never met everybody. There were so many DISers.
So stay on the WBTA, we found it a great trip. You will love it and the ports too.

Hey ... please don't feel like an outcast .. it's true a lot of us have cruised together before but we were all strangers once and just got to know each other through threads like this one initially. One of the best things about the DIS cruise thread is that you get to meet up with old friends and you also get to make new ones. Stick with us :hug: we were all first time cruisers once :thumbsup2

Just think of this as a whole bunch of friends you haven't quite met in person yet.

That is exactly what we are :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I wouldn't worry about that AT ALL! It was this way BEFORE the cruise! You will have no problems making friends on here and once you get on the cruise, you'll already know a ton of people!:thumbsup2 This is a chatty group! If you look at the list where each cruise has their on thread, look at how many have 6 or more threads! :goodvibes Just jump in asking questions and you'll be amazed how eager "disers" are to help you! :dance3:

We did this too and booked via email. It was way cheaper than the DCL trip on the same ship like Karen says. We also really enjoyed it. It was really spectacular seeing the tallest cliff in Europe from the sea. They gave our free Madeira wine which was vile and honey cake which was better :thumbsup2
I would recommend this trip but only booking through the Santa Maria company not at the DCL tour prices!

Nooooo!!! Please don't think that!!!

I did the 2010 WBTA solo and only booked 7 weeks from the sailing - cannot tell you how nervous I was!!! In fact, I think I only knew one or two other couples from a previous cruise but, despite joining the cruise thread VERY late, I tentatively made friends and agreed to link dining. I don't think it would be an understatement to say that I made friends for life on that cruise. Despite not being able to join in with banter that had been going on for a while. Honestly, it was the best vacation ever. I cannot stress that enough...

And TBH, I have no clue what the 2011 WBTA-ers are talking about!!! ;) But it sounds like fun was had so I love that they too had a Magical trip. And I definitely want to be a part of the next one... So, please join us - it's going to be fab and you'll make a load of amazing memories... No, if DCL would just announce it already... :cool2:

EXACTLY!!! ::yes::

me too..:confused3 never been on the WBTA.. but then there is always a first time..and soon i"ll know the insider scoop too..

Seriously? I didn't know you just did carry-ons. I'm impressed! :worship:

Personally, I think the key is to pay for the second checked bag, stuff everything to the last available ounce, then buy more stuff in Barca and Madeira.

Not mugged Pat, just pick-pocketed

The pickpockets were in Barca. Nope, you can try to sugar-coat it all you want, but Ed got mugged! :rotfl2:

:welcome: to the thread :)

The WBTA 2011 was our first EVER cruise and we were nervous as hell especially as we booked very late on considering alot of people had booked 2 years out!

As soon as I read through the thread and posted our first message on the thread everyone was sooooo welcoming and even though I was aware that some people had already met and others made friends just by chatting for past year or so, I just jumped in and manically started asking questions and sharing our excitement. This was our own journey we were taking and I felt anyone we met in the process was a bonus.

By the time the cruise arrived I felt we'd already had alot of fun with all of the planning and sharing excitement with people that were all going to be Sharon the same trip as us!!

Once we got on the ship we felt a bit like rabbits stuck in headlights as it was all so new, but as soon as we all met up in the promenade lounge it was like meeting old friends. Everyone was so nice and we ended up goig from "ok we'll give cruising a try" to "omg when is our next dcl cruise!!!"

I don't yet know alot of the people that did the 2010 WBTA (hello everyone ) but I'm sure by the time the next WBTA comes around they will be like old friends :)

I think I've rambled a bit much now, but basically what I'm saying is that everyone is nice, friendly and ready to help out with any questions!!!

So look forward to getting to know you and in future cruising with you :)

Noooooooooo! Stay with us! We were new last cruise and felt the same way initially - but it turned out people were JUST LOVELY - and our interactions with Dis-ers really enhanced our cruise.

I'm new too! It's just a matter of jumping in.

As we have so many returning cruisers on this sailing maybe we could call the thread WBTA 2013 Transatlantic: Where everybody knows your name & we're always glad you came!

Love this idea :thumbsup2

I can understand the feeling. I was on the 2010 EBTA but I'm really looking forward to a WBTA. It can be a be awkward to not know the in jokes at first, but after a bit, you can get the jist of most of it. Besides Oct. 2013 is a LONG way away so we have plenty of time to get to know everyone. :grouphug:

To DCL - please put us out of our misery and release the 2013 Magic/Wonder sailings. I'm mentally, emotionally and physically tired and could really use some great news.

That and we only have 21 months to plan. We've got to get started!!! :rotfl:
