NO-vember

My my DH's work, they have to be clean shaven, but in November, they can pay $40 (the money goes to a charity) and not shave for the month. He usually participates in that.

Yeah no shave November is pretty common.

There are several others that I wont mention on this site but they are quite common.

I think this sums it up quite well though:
Yeah the No-vember trend I have heard about from my son is not Dis approved.

So I'm curious.....have you ever heard of this?
Do you do this?
Do you know others that do this?
Haven't heard of it -
Na...I gotta get my body ramped up for the excesses of Thanksgiving and the Christmas season! Gotta stay in shape!
I know of no one who is doing this.
One guy said he’s doing it and the other (who’s a priest) said no way to doing it - LOL!
Father Dave??? I've caught his show a time or two after Lino, I like that he has a great sense of humor and also tosses in some knowledge which is interesting.

Yes - this topic was discussed on The Busted Halo show. Father Dave is the best - he seems like such a fun guy.

I have only heard of No-vember in terms of saying no to things you don’t want to do. I only heard about it this year and I am not planning to do it. I am a wife, a mom and an employee. I do tons of stuff I don’t want to do.

I think at one time November was the month to give up smoking for a week or so. Bet the murder rate soared unexpectedly.

Haven't the male anchors of the Today show done No shave November in the past?

Well, the females might have too, but the men were obvious. :D

I have heard of it in different contexts. If it takes something like a funny slogan or something to break a bad habit, I am all for it.

Myself, I jokingly started "NO indulgence November"... that lasted until the 4th. DH brought home pizza. So yea, my no indulgence went out the window pretty quickly. So I had to start over on the 5th :rotfl2:

Here on the Dis we have "Slo-vember" :smooth:
We’ve had a little running joke around my office for the past few days. Turns out last month we ended up doing a TON of comp work and covering the cost of things as customer courtesy, which is NOT great for the annual budget this late in the year. I’ve been telling my staff that YES-tober is over and it’s now NO-vember. Kidding - not kidding.

Never heard of it until now and having heard of it, well, it doesn't appeal to me at all. Why give up stuff when the holidays just got started?

There is Halloween and say yes to the candy.
There is Thanksgiving and say yes to the sides.
There is Christmas and saying yes to oodles of lights, festive parties, dressing up, presents.

Sounds like a great big buzz-kill, I don't know what Grinch monster wants to crush all the fun out of this time of year but they need to go away. No apologies from this lady, party on peopleparty:

I've only heard of Movember, where men grow mustaches during the month of November and raise funds for men's health issues.

A lot of this is made-up social media stuff.

Exactly! The months aren't named for English/Anglo-Saxon words. They were derived long ago from other cultures and traditions that pre-date calendars.

I actually heard it on a radio show that’s on The Catholic Channel. The show is a fun show and they weren’t talking about it as a religious thing - they gave the examples I gave. One guy said he’s doing it and the other (who’s a priest) said no way to doing it - LOL!

The Catholics already have 40 days of giving up something. That time period is called LENT and it happens in the spring between Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday.
