No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try. - ToT 10 Miler & F&W - Updated 12/21

Way to go, sticking with it even after an icky night! I am behind this week. Hoping next week I feel better and get back in the horse (so to speak)

I think we'll have bad weeks. This week may end up being mine thanks to going through a huge audit at work this week & possibly having to entertain those guests at night.

You stuck it out and trained despite the other icky things! Good job! Remember one step in front of the other! :goodvibes

Great job on your Bake Sale...and such a good cause! :thumbsup2

I also have a pair of shin compression sleeves that I wear almost daily. I too am a lefty foot and that gets me into way too much leg issues. I find the tape helps me lots when running...more than the compression sleeves!

 your new Brooks! Is that a new color for this year? I am about to need a new pair...:scared1:

Apparently there was a contest last week for the most money raised for Make-A-Wish & our team won a $200 gift certificate for a local seafood house. I think Thursday or Saturday we're going to all go out for drinks/appetizers for all of us on the team!

The tape worked really well for me to help heal. I'm going to try the compression socks tomorrow during my run that we picked up while at Fit2Run.

I'm not sure if its a new color for this year but I love that they aren't insanely bright. I really hate how bright most running shoes are so being able to get black with a little bit of purple is perfect for me.

Way to go on the bake sale! That is awesome!

Remind me how many weeks are in your program? I am thinking you are a quarter or a third the way through, right? That is awesome!!!

I recently had to go back to running in brooks. I am almost loving them as much as my adidas. The are black and purple too. :thumbsup2

C210K is a 14 week program so I'm about 1/3rd of the way through. I have done C25k now twice. By the time it finishes, it should be around the same time that the official ToT training program comes out or I'll go towards Couch to Half Marathon. We'll see where I'm at at that time on which program I will complete.

Glad you are loving your new brooks! I makes me think I should go after Maleficent themed costume for ToT but I have time to make that choice.

I thought it was about 12... Good for you though! 1/3 done is excellent!! :thumbsup2 I am really needing to find a good training program. I just have not found one I truly like yet. I did sign up for a half program, but it takes the miles up to 40 a week. I am not certain I like that.

Maleficent would be fun! I wish I had thought of that! I already have mine picked out though. I got the shirt for it when rawthreads had their sale a while back. It will be good...but my shoes won't be perfect for it.

There seems to be so many training programs out there. I'm not sure if the C2HalfMarathon is going to work well for me for the 10 Miler but at least its something that I can work towards & if it doesn't work well, if I do another race, I can change to a different plan.

I'm not totally sold on doing Maleficent but I'll probably won't buy any costumes until July/August so I have time to change my mind.

There is always spray paint to change the shoes ;)

I think the fact there are so many plans out there is what gets me all :confused3 I also have a hard time starting one thing and then stopping. I like your plan to change to a different plan if doesn't work well. :thumbsup2

I have so many costumes I am tossing around in my head... I have started to purchase some... and shoes are just not going to factor in that much at this point. I tend to go through them pretty quickly. My new ones... already have the tread worn down on the heel. :confused3 I think that they should still have this color when it comes time to replace them... but who knows...

Subbing over here :goodvibes So jealous of all your WDW trips being so close! Of course I have a similar situation with DL, it's about a 5 hour drive so we make several trips a year.

Funny, we are leaving AKL as you possibly arrive! Most of our trip will be at AKL with the last night at SS. We're renting points though, we're not DVC members.

Congrats on the weight loss and I'm sorry to hear about DH's job. Here's to a new and better opportunity for him!

/
I need new shoes too- I think that's on tap in the next few weeks.....

I like your new ones! I have not decided on my ToT outfit either yet..... I'm much too focused on the race AFTER ToT instead. :rotfl2:

Thanks for joining in! I've only have spent 1 day at Disneyland when I was out in Riverside, CA for a job interview & my husband has never been so I'm jealous you get to go there so often.

Well I'm hoping I won't be staying at AKL at all but that involves having a miracle wait list come through with DVC but we'll see what happens. Renting points is a great way to save money but stay in nicer rooms. I enjoyed SSR when we stayed there last 4th of July.

He ended up staying with his company now as he was able to get an hourly job within the company so while it is a pay cut, its something. He just signed that job offer on Thursday.

I understand being confused about all those plans - especially with you having so many races this year and trying to make sure you maintain for all of those. At least I only have 1 race to train for.

You just got those new shoes a month ago right? How often do you go through a pair?

Good luck trying to find new shoes that work!

Well the cupcakes are very active in their half marathon planning. I'm not sure I'm going to do that. A few of the women I work with (or wives of the people I work with) may want to do the Princess but we haven't decided if we are going to do it together. I may just do the 10K instead. At least I have a couple months to decide.

Rest Day!

Tuesday, March 25th

W4D3 of C210K: First time running in my new shoes/compression socks. I wasn’t in as much pain shin splint wise which is awesome. Mapmyrun messed up for a little bit during cooldown but at least I know why I missing some time.

Wednesday, March 26th

W5D1 of C210K: I should have just gone to the gym for bike/upper body work but I had zero desire to drive there. I ended up in pain after about 20 minutes but I was far enough from home that I really had no choice but having to finish. Icyhot was my friend.

Thursday, March 27th

I decided to make this a rest day instead of cross training as my leg was still slightly sore depending on how I turned it. I got bored as my husband was working this evening and starting looking around online & signed up for the Stridebox Subscription Box. I guess we’ll see if its worth the $15 a month! My first box should be here within 2 weeks.

Friday, March 28th

W5D2 of C210K. I ended up running at the gym instead of the road as when I got home from work, we headed straight to dinner @ The Pub & I didn’t want to go work out right after. We ended up going out around 8:00PM instead. This was my fastest run to date even on the treadmill at a 12:59 min/mil according to the pace calculator. The compression socks are really working for not hurting as much.

Saturday, March 29th

Cross training day. 30 minutes on the bike then upper body/core work.

I also ended up going out with some friends for dancing as well.

W5D3 of C210K. I ran at the gym again today because of the rain yesterday and I had to go to the grocery store anyway so I just combined the two trips. I ended up going faster than Friday even!

I have an appointment on Tuesday with a therapist for my shin splits as we have a doctor that comes to work once a week & its completely covered for the 20 minute appointments so it doesn't hurt to see if he can help. I also have my 5k on Saturday for Make-A-Wish!

Is the ToT the only race you have planned? When I first did the ToT, it was only my second race and really the ONE I was training for. I did a 10k for corral placement...but really it was about the 10miler that first year. Once I did that it became training for the phm.. and then I just found I was always running something. I sometimes think I am in a maintenance mode all the time and then others times worry I should be on a training program. Today I am a little less worried that I should be on a program since I ran yesterday a longer distance... and was able to probably because of maintaining...

You just got those new shoes a month ago right? How often do you go through a pair?

I am hard on shoes. I wear them unevenly... but also mileage I tend to go through them quickly. I forgot that I probably will only get about 200 miles out of my new ones. At 20 miles a week... that is 10 weeks. I might be able to stretch it out to 3 months. I was able to stretch my boosts out longer. I think they lasted from October to February.

Look at you go!!! You are definitely improving. Sorry for the shin problems though... hopefully the appointment on Tuesday will help!

5k on saturday!! :cool1::cool1: I will want to read all about it!!:thumbsup2

At least it is something, so congrats! Wish there wasn't the pay cut though.. :sad2:

It could have been a lot worse of a pay cut though & I'm sure once holiday season comes around or certain managers are on vacations, he'll end up with extra overtime so it may end up working out more in our favor but I don't want to count on that. If no overtime, he'll at least be at home more.

ToT is the only major race I have planned. The 5K on Saturday for Make-A-Wish isn't really something I'm training for as there is a group of 22 of us from work doing it & a bunch will be walking so I'm not sure I'll be running the whole thing. Then I have nothing else booked. We will do the Castaway Cay 5k in September during our cruise though. Depending on the info we get for my husband's San Diego Achievers trip with work and schedules & locations of things, there is a 10K on May 10th in San Diego we may do so we can get Proof of Time for ToT. If not, I'm keeping an eye out on that website for 10Ks that we would be able to do reasonably before July 1st. Right now, it isn't looking too good.

I may do the Princess but that isn't set in stone either. If a few of the people from work want to do it, I will or we may do the 10K instead together.

Hopefully one day I'll get to that maintenance mode too!

I think this would be the downside if I went into maintenance mode ;) Running shoes are so expensive too but I guess I could just look as it as 2 dinners out with my husband.

It will be interesting to see where my pace is on the road when I get to run outside on Tuesday. My shins are probably thanks to the fact that I have such well developed calves & thighs, my shins haven't gotten this much attention so they need to balance themselves out.

I'm excited for Saturday as well as it will be fun to go with as large of a group as I am, especially for such a great cause. Then there will be some fun day activities there afterwards.

I hope it will end up in your favor! Good to see the glass half full though...even if it is hard to at times. I mean at least he is employed, right?

Getting a POT could definitely help get you into a corral that would allow for more pictures and such. July 1 is the cut off? I think I knew that. I just have different ones in my mind that I am trying to remember. I thought avengers was July 1....

Are you searching runningtheusa? best site ever!

I may do the Princess but that isn't set in stone either. If a few of the people from work want to do it, I will or we may do the 10K instead together.

Yeah, the princess isn't set in stone for me either. I really want to... and I kinda budgeted points for it. I just am not sure it is such a good idea right after January. Especially since dh is now supporting the idea that I go dopey...:faint: If I did the dopey I wouldn't do the phm. I also would have to takle training and the races an entirely different way. I think I could do it. Run the 5k, walk the 10k, run the half and then walk the full. I think that would be my plan. However, I am already struggling with what training program to get on board with and the dopey is a much more involved plan. Then again... maybe I wouldn't need to do too much more? I could run a 5k tomorrow and then a half a couple days later. It is just those additional 32.4 miles that I would need to be able to walk. :rotfl2:

Hopefully one day I'll get to that maintenance mode too!

I think you don't have to get to that point. I am not sure I am normal that way. I think normal people take breaks... they train only when they have to and build up miles when they have to. I am just always afraid if I stop I won't be able to get started again. I started because I had good reason to. Now I am needing to reevaluate what drives me and motivates me.

I think this would be the downside if I went into maintenance mode ;) Running shoes are so expensive too but I guess I could just look as it as 2 dinners out with my husband.

I try to look at it this way too... I cut my starbucks consumption down a bit to pay for some of my running addiction... go out to movies less... etc. Something to note though... I get as minimalist shoes and I can. (low heel to toe drop) So there is not a lot of material there. If I got shoes that were more substantial (I would be paying the same) and if I didn't wear them unevenly, I could probably get closer to 500 or maybe even 600 miles on them. THAT is a lot better! IF I make my goal of 1000 miles this year that means maybe every six or seven months a new pair of shoes.

It will be interesting to see where my pace is on the road when I get to run outside on Tuesday. My shins are probably thanks to the fact that I have such well developed calves & thighs, my shins haven't gotten this much attention so they need to balance themselves out.

I think that another area that can cause trouble for shins is where the tendon attaches under the foot. I know that is where dh has to use "the stick" on to "loosen things"

I'm excited for Saturday as well as it will be fun to go with as large of a group as I am, especially for such a great cause. Then there will be some fun day activities there afterwards.

Sounds like a fun time! Going with a group can definitely be a great experience.

Thats why I'm trying to find a race that works. ToT is definitely July 1st, maybe Avengers is the same day too?

Yeah, the princess isn't set in stone for

Go you if you go for the Dopey! I would never be that crazy. 10 miles seems like a crazy amount to me so adding that much more is even more :scared1:

At least having a goal like walking would be reasonable. Once of my friends I know through Disney boards got swept this year in the Marathon after Mile 14 as she was getting really ill as she was over doing it to herself.

I get the stopping and starting thing. I've done that a few times in my wellness journey. If I don't have something to strive to, I will get unmotivated really quickly as losing weight isn't a good enough goal.

I try to look at it this way too... I cut my starbucks consumption down a bit to pay for some of my running addiction... go out to movies less... etc. Something to note though... I get as minimalist shoes and I can. (low heel to toe drop) So there is not a lot of material there. IF I make my goal of 1000 miles this year that means maybe every six or seven months a new pair of shoes.

My starbucks consumption went down a ton when my usual store got kicked out of the shopping plaza my gym is at. This is a good thing for my wallet at least. As far as movies, I go to a ton but I have this awesome Moviepass that for $35 a month, I can see a movie every 24 hours at the theater, so as long as I see at least 3 movies a month, I'm covered. I typically end up seeing around 5 or 6.

You will get your 1000 miles this year, especially if you end up training for Dopey!

I think that another area that can cause trouble for shins is where the tendon attaches under the foot. I know that is where dh has to use "the stick" on to "loosen things"

I learned some good things at the appointment this week. Hopefully they will be useful on Saturday!

Sounds like a fun time! Going with a group can definitely be a great experience.

It will - the group has grown another 15 people this week so I'm so happy so many of us are joining in.

Joining in! Hope Boardwalk comes through for you, this has now become a (hopeful) must try for me. And again in awe of you and all this running! :worship:

Whoo hoo! I love when a waitlist comes through!

So do I especially when I know its one of the harder ones to come through.

YAY for some magic today!

It is what I totally needed yesterday to lift my spirits too.

We're getting to try it first during Star Wars Weekends May 30th to June 1st. We've stayed there in their Club Level before but never the Villas.

I'm still very new to this running thing but having something like this is totally keeping me on track.
