Has anyone ever walked it from the GF to the WP?

DF and I have walked it lots of times, so I know it's not far - but I am considering not having any transport for myself.

It might be the cheapskate in me talking ;) but $600/$800 for a 2min ride? Obviously I would LOVE the coach, but as much as I like it I can't justify almost $3000 for a 2min ride!

I'm bumping this because I'm also interested to hear the answer. I don't want to spend the extra $$ for a limo that I don't need, but I'm wondering what would happen if it rained.

Could always bring an oversized umbrella in your wedding colors or a really cute parasol I guess. :goodvibes I think the rain would make for some lovely pictures actually. I can see how cute it would be to have all the bridal party huddling under a huge umbrella for photos and walking together.

It is more than a 2 min ride. We got the model A Ford. While It was hard to justify the 800. We got our fair share of rides. DH & His parents rode over to the pavilion, Me, my mom, & MOH rode to the pavilion, we got our staged exit and drove around the pavilion parking lot, and we were driven to the reception. While it is a lot you have to remember that its also going to be in your photos. I'm very excited to see those, that was the main part of why I chose the ford rather than a limo.

Everyone who rode in the car loved it. Also remember your bridal party is also going to have to walk over if there is no vehicle. As for raining I guess they could bring you in a golf cart

I remember reading a TR where the bride and groom walked to the GF from the WP. It didn't bother them, but I don't think the planners where particularly fond of this option.

i would walk it! coming from the uk there is enough of extra expenses to think of! if you choose the right time of year rain is going to be very unlikely and im sure the GF Staff would find a way if it did. from what i have read from other brides the limo compared to other modes of transport it isn't the most picturesque (sp?) so i wouldn't worry to much on that front.

i think you could also have lots of photo opportunities by walking over! it would make a nice change. i personally would feel rather silly trying to cram my dress and to watch the hair getting in to only arrive 2 minutes later! you could be the eco friendly bride!

save the money and spend it on booze and food!

I remember that TR too, I think they had Randy and he thought it was a cool idea. But the planner was not to keen on letting them do it.

I'm hoping to walk too! I can't really afford the coach, and I didn't want anything else, so I just thought, hey, we'll walk. That way I thought we could take pics too. The thing I'm worried about is the heat, I'm getting married at 2.30 in May, and I'm expecting it to be HOT!

Will your guests walk with you, or will they go first to the pre-reception,a nd you follow on after?

My Parents & I wanted to walk it. Then We realized us alonng with 150 guests might not be a good idea. So we are doing 2 limos back and forth shuttle type service.

But if we only had 50 I would totally walk it! That would be so much fun to show off even more to everyone & great pictures in the process!

We got married april 29. DH insisted he would walk ( I got ready off site at my parents hotel). We had a free limo (escape package) and he refused to be picked up to head over to the WP. Well, I booked it with it picking him up anyway and just told his family that once the limo picked them up if he wasn't waiting at the GF to head over to the WP and he would find his way there. He said when he walked from our room (at most 90 seconds outside) he realized it was too hot out (80 degrees) to walk that far in a tux! :rotfl: He took the limo! We also used it to shuttle everyone back to the GF for the cake cutting. We did the walk later that night after wishes and it was fine then but it would have been miserable during the day!

I think if you had anything but a sheath dress you'd get soaked

my girls and I are planning on getting ready at the GF in one of the ballrooms. We plan on walking. We are getting married on January 5th and being from Maine...if it rains it rains...anything will be better than the snow that will be waiting for us back home :) We are trying to cut out ALL of the added extras that we can without skimping on the magic. Instead of renting a bus we are going to ask our guests to ride the monorail with us to the contemporary for our dinner :yay:

I will say that if you aren't used to Florida weather it is EXTREMELY humid in august! I live down there and I know it saves a good bit of money but remember you will be getting your dress dirty, and the biggest thing is sweating! I'm not sure if I would want to be all sweaty the day I get married.. I definitely love some air conditioning! :lmao:

I got married this past August, and it was HOT! I am born and raised in Florida, so I am used to the hummity, but it was priceless to get into the limo with A/C after taking our pictures! It felt so good!

The thing I'm worried about most of all really is arriving at the WP all sweaty  Every time we've been to Florida we've been in August

I was planning on getting the Motor Coach for my guests - I really don't think there will be many as we're coming from the UK - which will pick them up from their hotels and take them straight to the WP, along with my small wedding party and probably my DF.

I'll be staying the night before at the GF with my mum I think, and the coach can pick her up/drop my dad off before going on to the WP. I'd walk over there with my dad, taking a few photos along the way.

On the way back, the Motor Coach would take my guests to the Contemporary for the pre-reception, whilst me and DF would take photos all the way down the beach and then at the GF, before catching the monorail to the CR.

That's sorta my plan for now! I can't really justify the Coach at the moment either and there's nothing else I really want - I do like the Rolls Royce, but I'm not fussed really. I know I don't want a limo.

I'm glad some other brides are walking it :)

We were using the limo for before and after, so it was there to take us and the wedding party over. Everyone else walked (this was the end of October, so the weather was not quite as warm), but there was a little drizzle. It had been raining a lot during the ceremony - fortunately it stopped before the ceremony ended, and was just barely starting again by the time we headed to the GF.

Now, here's the little secret, which may or may not end up being true for everyone....

Our last few guests, including DHM, who really couldn't walk that far, didn't have to. The planners don't walk it, they take a golf cart over. Or, at least, they did at our wedding. And they used it to take DHM and a few other guests who were the last ones at the WP over to the GF since it had started raining.

Now I would guess they won't ferry all your guests, even for a small Escape wedding. But - I'm betting they will take the bride and groom, especially if it is raining.

That would be my guess anyway.

Hmmmm I think I may use a limo, don't think I realised just how hot it will be. And I don't want to get to my reception all sweaty.
So, if I hire one limo, can I have it do loads of journey's? I am getting ready in villa's and would need it to take me and the bm's for pics at the GF, then us to the WP, then my guests (24) to the GF for the reception?
