No time for witty thread titles! Bocuse d'Or Grand Gala (w/pics!)!!!

WOW - great review and lots of excellent pictures. Everything looked yummy!

Well, who knew you were a DISboard contributor? My best friend is forbidden to post my photo on her Internet sites and here I am on your review? At least DH had the sense not to smile for the camera.

We enjoyed the evening immensely, and meeting ya'll really added to the fun. We were both thrilled that ya'll like to dance (DH as much as me)!

Great review and wonderful detail! We are back for the final weekend and it will not be the same without our new friends from CT.

Your Texas friend,
SimbaSue :tinker:

Wow, you don't post for a couple years and you find out that the tag fairy can taketh away just as easily as (s)he gives.

Great review. I love John Besh. Completely different review from most.

OMG! That's pretty much all I can say!
Thanks so much for posting your pictures and review!

I most definitely enjoyed this report. Sorry that you ended with a headache, though.

Brad - Thanks for sharing your informative and entertaining reviews with us. Especially enjoyed the Beshiness!;) Never leave home without the Advil my friend.

WOW!!

Thanks so much for sharing that! You did a great job!

So glad you all enjoyed the review! I definitely enjoyed sharing it and couldn't have had a better time at the Gala. It was worth every penny -- headache or no headache!

How funny is that??? Never even occurred to me to ask if you were a DIS'er too! We had such a great time meeting all of you (and dancing too -- for the record, SimbaSue sure knows how to cut a rug on the dance floor!).

Hope you have a fantastic time on the final weekend, and that we have the chance to meet up again sometime! Say hi to everyone for me!

Brad

Thanks for stopping by my thread and providing the link to yours (this one).

In answer to your question, I don't know how I got close to the trays (and many more pictures to come). They were a lot more accommodating on Day #1 - on Day#2 they were sensitive to the time constraints for gala preparations. I also think they may have thought I was some sort of professional because my camera has a larger-than-normal lense.

In any case, thanks for stopping by. I hope you subscribed because I have many more pictures.

In the spirit of cross-referencing - for those who are interested in the Bocuse d'Or, here is a link to another view from "an amatuer in the audience."

And since you mentioned the California Grill, I'll include that link too (although I haven't posted my pictures from 9/27 yet):

Just love your pics -- really, really great work. You have a great eye for lighting and composition. Thanks for sharing and I can't wait to see more!

.....your pictures really make me wish I had canceled my CG reservation and splurged for the Gala!!! I was right there - could have done it, and didn't. Geeesh!!

Also, I added another couple of posts today - and have quite a few more. Just don't have the free time to work on it continuously!

I have been looking for this review!! :yay: :yay: :dance3: :yay: :yay:

I'm also really glad to read that you enjoyed your evening at Raglan Road! I know some reviews are kind of spotty but we've always had such great experiences here and it's good to know that you did too! :thumbsup2

I am glad that Raglan Road did not disappoint! Bob and I are headed there for the first time in December.

Brad - The Gala looks like it was amazing. Do you feel that you got your money's worth out of the evening? If Bob were a more adventurous eater or if I had been there with other people I think I might have splurged. But I would have liked to have known in advance thatis was going to be worth it! ;)

Also, I think Bob and I liked the Beef Medallion with Cheddar Polenta and the Roasted Beet Salad at the San Francisco kiosk better than anything else we tasted in the 3 days we did lunch at F&W Festival. Interesting how people see things so differently!

Thanks for wonderful review. I wish you had felt better so that you could have enjoyed all that was offered.

Elin,

So glad you enjoyed the reviews. You won't be disappointed with Raglan Road. It is a very casual atmosphere, but you expect that going in since it is what it says it is -- an Irish pub. The food was very good, the beer excellent and the service outstanding.

The Gala was worth every penny. I was initially not sold on the event. It seemed ridiculously priced to me when I first heard about it. Then I saw the menu, and the Chefs that were preparing it and it became a no-brainer for me. I will, without hesitation, be back again in two years should the event be held at WDW. The headache, while unfortunate and really annoying, did not seriously harm my enjoyment of the evening. It is unfortunately something that I've had to deal with for years and I've gotten used to it -- I love wine and refuse to stop drinking it just because my body decides to get all cranky on me!

You are absolutely correct with different tastes for different folks. With the San Fran booth, we actually didn't taste either dish. The Beef and Polenta dish sounded very good, but we saw someone walk by with it and visually I found it wholly unappealing. For me, if the visual presentation isn't there, I am often uninterested in the dish. I would have loved to have eaten the Beet salad (BIG beet fan) but neither of my friends were interested, so we moved on.

Brad, thanks for the great pictures and in-depth review of the bocuse weekend. The entire event looked incredible and I really wish now that Jay and I could have worked out a way to attend.

So sorry to hear about your headache woes ... I've had that happen to me too, and it sucks big time. :sad2:

Thanks again for taking the time to put this together - it's wonderful! :thumbsup2

back from China at last - phew. Any chance you might have time to post the recipes you got at Epcot? Thanks so much!
