No theater shows on the fantasy this week

Well, imagine what a lot of passengers will say if told "yeah, the entertainment staff is all in quarantine."

So I kinda understand the lack of transparency.

I think the passengers would say "yeah, that's not surprising and obviously the reason there are no shows." -- If there are many passengers that are so stupid as to be fooled by the lie, then that would indeed be surprising.

We were on the Fantasy last week. It was Aladdin and Frozen we saw. Some cast members were starting to wear masks on the second night of Frozen, one in the first showing. And a few more in the second showing that night. There were technical issues earlier and Frozen was delayed. They had a makeup show of Believe for Friday at 3 but then all were cancelled later on. It could have been a technical issue but more likely was a COVID issue.

If Disney acknowledged this is Covid related, does that not open them up to potential legal action? They would essentially be admitting to bringing passengers onto a ship with active cases on-board?

We know there are active cases on board. It's reported to and tracked by the CDC. So, no. what you're saying is absolutely incorrect.

Possibly. Hard to make a legal case given all statements and warnings, though.

I do think there are a lot of people still chirping the "it's Disney so they'll keep us safe!" song. But Disney cannot change the nature of reality. I don't think everyone getting on board is tracking CDC case numbers per ship. They're aware there are precautions and testing, and may think that such things are enough and that because cast are on the ship they are never exposed somehow.

I know someone on land who is very cautious and was freaking out about letting the girls drink cocoa near a campfire outside, who is completely oblivious to her kids eating in a school cafeteria in a district with a massive COVID outbreak. It's 2 years into a pandemic and people are tired.

Not possibly. They report the number of positive cases on board and it's not 0.

All passengers are not googling the CDC on board case numbers, guaranteed. The on board numbers are not reported in check in or before boarding.

One cast member in the shows on the Magic was wearing a mask during Tangled and Dreams on the Jan 3-8 cruise. We were curious if it was by choice, or because he had been exposed maybe? and they were trying to keep the shows going as long as he kept testing negative? Crew are tested daily now...

"Technical issues" could mean it's the tech crew or stage crew, not necessarily the performers. There may be as many non-performers involved with production as there are on stage.

Question:

In pre pandemic times, how often were stage shows on the ships cancelled for days on end due to "technical issues?"

This reply cracked me up.

It does feel very silly that they won’t just come clean and say what we all know is going on. But I think it is less to do with any lawsuit and more to do with wanting to avoid negative headlines if some blogger picks up on it.

Right. It’s not lawsuits (or at least, not meritorious lawsuits). They don’t want cancellations.

A “technical” problem is a one-off that probably that can be solved and thus won’t repeat itself on your upcoming cruise.

A COVID problem that emerges in spite of all of the safety precautions is not a one-off and very well could repeat itself on your upcoming cruise. That’ll get people thinking about cancelling, and putting the money back in their pocket until things settle down again.

So I understand the charade, even though I think it’s stupid because it’s not fooling anyone.

2 of our pre-C sailings had cancellations- one Beauty & the Beast when it was still in its ‘premiere’ run and the other was Wishes/Believe/whatever the version on the Fantasy was 3 years ago-

The B&B was the disappointing one as it was super hyped all Cruise then cancelled a few hrs before show on the last night.

The other show was cancelled earlier in the day and a variety act substituted (wasn’t in our plan to see so no loss)

I do know sometimes in very rough seas, stage performances had to be cancelled for the actors' safety. Also, I remember being on one of the very first cruises on the Dream after they cancelled the Golden Mickeys and just did two showings of BATB. I wrote on my comment card I was disappointed but must not have resonated since they made that change pretty much permanent.

But were all the shows cancelled for more than one day on one cruise? That's what I was asking.

Obviously there were some shows cancelled here and there due to either rough seas or technical problems. I want to know how often ALL the shows on a particular sailing were cancelled due to "technical difficulties."
