No tents allowed in premium sites

Disney has a new policy that does not allow tents in the premium sites. We made our reservation online and it says nothing about the new change. Only found out when we called to make our final payment and told them we have a tent with the trailer. They told us no tents in the premium sites. Now what??? Everything is booked in the other sites and we can't fit in the trailer with everyone else. Been doing this for ten years with no problem other than sometimes there isn't too much space for a tent.

How can they just change a policy and not put it on the website where you make reservations. I spent 2 hours on the phone and all they kept saying was "sorry, we are all full. Show up and hope for a cancellation in a different area." My thought is to just put the tent up and see what happens. Any thoughts???

We just left FW on Sunday and we were in a premium site for 9 days. We saw several campers/RVs with tents on the pads... in fact we were one of them . We use our tent to house the luggage and such to save room in the camper and it's a 10x14... so it wasn't hidden. Nothing was ever said to us nor did it state anything on our information when we checked in. Weird.

Not that policy can't change, but I would take anything a Disney phone CM tells you with a grain of salt. They are often known for handing out incorrect info.

3) The mentioin of tents on the campsite is gone.

That's what we'll be doing at Halloween! I'd be shocked if they tried to enforce it.

"Enforcing the rules" happens to limited degrees at the Fort.

When it's an issue of liability, sometimes they do (kids driving golf carts).

When it's an issue of safety, they almost always do (open fires in the campsites).

When it's rules for rule's sake, almost never (one car per site).

Not sure if this is revelant, but noticed this is OP's first thread. I've never noticed much trolling in the camping thread, but do see it a lot in the other sections. Hope that's not what this is all about....nothing like getting people all riled up over something that isn't true! Rusty scupper? Find out anything?

1) I seldom check-in people, so I asked folks on the Front Desk.
2) No one has heard of this.
3) Doesn't mean it isn't so, as the word might no be out, yet.
4) But, my and the FD folks opinions are that FW would not make this change.
. . . too many campers do use tents with a motor home or camper
. . . too many campers use a screen-room with the RV setup
. . . as long as you don't encroach upon the neighbor's pad, there is no issue
5) If I hear anything to the contrary, I will post QUICKLY.

THE NEW RULES ARE NOW UP AND IT PROHIBITS TENTS. NOW, WILL WE

Kinda like our government,,they tend to pick 'n choose rules that suits them at the time,,or may just choose to make up something willy nilly if they so desire,,actually no one can stop them apparently.

Leaving for the Fort today and I will let you guys know if anything happens, but I assure you, I talked to two different people on the general Disney reservation line and then also called the Fort directly---all of them said the same thing to me. They tried to change us to a preferred or full hook up, but everything is booked.
I do agree that maybe they aren't enforcing it once you are there, but they def told us on the phone about it.
The person at FW that I talked to had to go and ask somebody about it, but when she got back on the phone she said it was a new policy. She then transferred me to reservations to see if we could be moved (hung up once I heard that automated machine).

Just doesn't make sense that they would say you can't have a tent on a premium site where there is tons more room and let you have a tent on a smaller site. We are always able to put up a tent and have plenty of room for our 38' with slideouts right on the pad.

The explanation I got was that the premium sites have the extended paved driveway leaving very little space on most sites for a tent. This caused people to put tents up in the center of the loop or using space up from another site.

We were in the 800 loop and there was 3 tents on a site by the entry corner and main road, we were across from them. They were all adults about 8 people for several days as we were there about 10 days..

If this is true (and that's a big if at this point since we don't know), I wonder if Disney is seeing it as a safety issue. Maybe too many people have put up tents and then either not anchored them at all, or anchored them so poorly that they blew away during afternoon storms. Maybe damaging someone else's property?

We were there last weekend and had our 11x11 screen tent set up next to our travel trailer on a premium site...no issues at all. There were about 5 other big rvs with tents set up also in the 800 loop...lots of room for them.

Basically if you want to bring a tent and a trailer you are limited to what, 1/4 of the total sites?
