No Tank Tops for dinner - clarification

Hello!
First time DCL cruiser! I know DCL says no tank tops at dinner, but I think I need some clarification if possible. Cruising in June and will have been in FL and WDW for 6 days prior to cruise. If I have a sundress with "straps" is that ok for dinner. It's a summer dress that I've worn to Narcoossees and Le Cellier and never had an issue with being told it's inappropriate ... Can women wear summer type dresses to dinner? THANK YOU in advance!! Cheers!

Yes. The "tank tops" they are referring to are the beer-drinking, hairy armpit showing ones on guys. Summer dresses are acceptable.

Yes, sundresses are fine. Strapless dresses are fine. The biggest issue is that DCL keeps the dining rooms rather chilly, so you might want to bring a wrap to go with your dresses.

Perfect!!! Thank you to both of you!!! Good to know about being chilly too!!! I'm so used to walking to dinner at WDW and being so warm from the humidity in June that I never layer!!!

Yeppers. It's why pashminas are sold on so many cruiselines, so that women don't freeze at dinner!

But seriously, women are not supposed to wear tank-tops either?...that is, armless t-shirt type things. Its not just for guys, I presume and if it is, oh boy! I smell lawsuits from SOME disgruntled cruiser..........

I am not sure why they even still have that rule. LOTS of women wear "tank top" style shirts and dresses to dinner and it is fine. Every once in a while I see a man wearing one but not often. They don't really care about this rule.

It is especially strange since a lot of formal evening wear for women would have a sleeveless top.

a looooong time ago, when the rules were first "relaxed" I contended that it is a slippery slope when you lessen expectations. It seems to be human nature for a select few to go down one or two notches below expectations (unsure why...maybe they're just wild heck-raisers?)
anyhow, you tell me there are tank tops in the MDRs? any bathing suits yet/

PLEASE: no "its my vacation and I'll dress as I want" replies. It has been well-stated previously. I'm not looking for a spittin' contest, just curious......

Huh? Why would it be just for guys? Not sure where that came from. The rule is simple, and everyone knows what a tank top is.

However, just like shorts when they weren't allowed, I've seen plenty of people wearing tank tops and no one turned away. As for the OP, sun dresses seem to be common and VERY appropriate for a cruise dining room.

YES, my son wore nice shorts every night except formal night when I made him put on his dress pants. And of course, he hated that since he was going to the club directly from dinner in his pants and dress shoes.

I love the "Is it ok to wear....." threads. For some people it is a sensitive/emotional issue. I think the restaurants on a cruise ship equivalent to the most common table-service restaurants like Outback, Quincy's, Longhorn's, Ruby Tuesday or Applebee's. The MDRs are not formal dining like Palo, they are family restaurants and in any family restaurant you are apt to see people you think are dressed 'inappropriately'.
If you have dinner at the Cinderella's Castle at WDW you can expect to pay upwards of $60 per person or $300 for a family of 4 including tip. But if you look around, you will be hard pressed to find people not wearing shorts and tee shirts or tank tops. Does that diminish the experience? Some would say yes....I say no....but that's just me.

Would anyone know...what about on pirate night? If my daughter and I wore tank tops that fit the pirate-y theme and were very modest, but not necessarily dressy, do you think that would be acceptable? I'd hate to show up not dressed appropriately. TIA
