I am trying to price out a trip for August. We would like to stay at Caribbean Beach or Port Orleans-Riverside. When I go online there are no standard rooms available for that time. Is that strange to anyone else?

Room availability is very fluid. It is not uncommon to have an entire room category appear to be completely booked then find availability a week later. The same goes for the various discounts that are released, certain room categories appear to have no discount, but if you check later on you may find something. I was able to change my room only discount reservation at POFQ from a garden to a standard room almost two months after the discount came out.

I would budget for the room prices that are available now and be happy if I found something that was less expensive.

Like PP said, room availability can change day by day. It also depends on your actual length of stay, as the Disney algorithm is something I think none of us truly understand! Some examples (all from the previous 12 months):
  • For a December trip, I tried to find a standard WL room for 8 nights. Cheapest available was Pool View. If I switched it to 6 nights and 2 nights, I could find a standard room, but was at the risk of needing to change rooms on the 6th night. (In the end I switched to a split stay so I can see multiple resorts.)
  • For a March trip, I could only find a Pool View AKL room for the base rates. When discounts became available I was eventually able to switch it to a Standard view with the AP discount.
  • For a May trip, I wanted Yacht Club, standard room for 6 nights. Only thing available was Garden view. I even tried breaking up the days, but only Garden view was available. If I broke it up into 1-night stays though, even that got removed from availability and only Club level was available.
For OP, my advice would be to either stick with the room that fits your current budget and continue searching for room availability. Or modify your search and try doing a split stay. Good luck!
