No Shade at Resort Pools

Why isn't there any shade at the resort pools? I would love to be able to go down and enjoy the pool atmosphere but need to be able to sit in the shade because of a condition.

I have always been able to find shade at every WDW hotel I've ever stayed at. The only one I have not stayed at is Polynesian.

Sometimes you have to move a chair, but there is shade at every resort pool.

The Grand Floridian and Contemporary both have cabanas you can rent. The AKL Jambo House pool has a very shady hot tub. Stormalong Bay has some shady areas...But in general, I agree, there is little shade & that's unfortunate. I guess they figure that everyone wants to sunbathe, or that creating shade would cost money they don't want to spend. If you go in the evening, you can sit out by the pool and not be in direct sun. It's very pleasant.

We stayed at CBR two weeks ago. While there was not any natural shade from trees, there were a number of umbrellas at the main pool. I don't recall seeing them at the quiet pools though. Have you tried the main pool where you are staying?

Maybe it's only at the Values. We have stayed at Pop the last few years and don't recall seeing anything available especially at the Quiet Pools.

It really depends on where you're staying. Port Orleans had a lot of trees and in my opinion almost too much shade, where CBR had basically no shade at all within the gated pool area. Many resorts though do have tables with umbrellas that can help.

I'm not sure about the quiet pools at Pop, but we've always been able to get a table with an umbrella at the Hippy Dippy pool. :thumbsup2

I agree - I would say POR Riverside has almost too much shade, lots of trees which makes it a less desirable "winter pool" for our family. I know they're all heated, but in the cooler months the sunshine can help a lot.

And one side or the other always has shade under the trees depending on where the sun is at that point in the day.

If you have access to the water parks I would suggest renting a spot that has a chair and an umbrella. I think it is around $60 to rent for the day. A few years ago I was on a medication where I had to be extremely careful about sun exposure. We rented one of the umbrella spots at Typhoon Lagoon for the day and it was WONDERFUL! They helped us pick a spot that was shaded with trees in addition to having the umbrella. I was covered and shaded the entire time.

Is it possible to bring an umbrella that hooks onto a chair? I'm sure amazon must carry something like that.

I don't know if it would be allowed, but just thought I'd mention the idea.

I know there are tables with umbrellas near the computer pool, that are outside the fenced in area. They are along the edge of the walkway by the grass across from the bottom of the "keyboard". I have used those. I think they have some inside the enclosure as well, but I'm not a pool person (at least, not public pools), so I'm not 100% sure. But the ones I have used have a pool view, and are not that far from the entry gate.

The three pools I've been to are CSR's Dig Site pool, a quiet pool at CSR and VGF's Beach pool, and all had shade. The Dig Site had tables with umbrellas as well as areas under trees. The Beach pool a VGF had tables with umbrellas and unless I'm remembering incorrectly, umbrellas over some lounge chairs. My mother and I spent some pool time there in December and I know we ate our lobster sliders sitting on lounge chairs and I'm fairly certain there was an umbrella over ME at least, as I don't like sitting directly in the sun too long.

Going to Kidani next month, and the videos I've seen of that pool show a lot of natural shady areas as well as umbrellas.

I agree that shade is important. I've had multiple basal cell places removed thanks to years and years of not being careful in the sun. Not interested in doing that anymore!

I stay at AS Music and not only do they have palm trees that offer shade but tables and lounge chairs that have large umbrellas. I am constantly moving my chair to get out of the shade while the sun moves across the sky. If the All Stars have them, I can't believe that the moderates or deluxe dudes don't.

I agree, the pools could use more umbrellas, esp for the lounges. I prefer those to sitting at a table all day. There are very few umbrellas for the lounges and most are taken. In summer it’s brutally hot.

I was saying this to my husband last week at the Boardwalk (main pool). There were a bunch of umbrella tables by the bar and a few scattered about. I got there early enough to get one but it was just me most of the time and I felt bad taking up a table for 4. Plus a lounger would have been more comfortable. They were generally in shady spots based on the position of the sun - it's not convenient to move around all day IF one was available.

Yes, there is shade. Either by trees, umbrella of structures depending on the pool. You might try goggle maps and look at the pools using aerial view along with this sites resort pictures
