It took me a few days to figure out what these horrible bites are-- I knew something bit me at Kidani when we were doing the night vision goggles. I'm very sensitive to bites but these are unreal! They're mostly on my neck and back and legs, with a few on my arms. They're big red hard welts that develop tiny blisters that break and ooze serum-- they itch like crazy. My left ankle and about a five-inch circumference around it are swollen from the worst bite.

If you're at all sensitive to bites-- use bug repellent on or near the Savannah! In all our visits, I've never had bites like these except one year when I got chiggers from burying my feet in the sand at the Polynesian.

I feel for you. I got bit by these one year staying in Melbourne Beach and it took weeks to heal. They are far worse than mosquito bites.

Those are the worst! I got attacked one time at a trip to Port Charlotte (never going back there again!!). It took mine about 2 weeks to finally heal :(.

Guess what...your in Florida! All kinds of critters and bugs, all over!

That's why there's bug spray in my Owner's Locker lol. Never thought to use repellent on the Savannah- but now that's in my Owner's Locker too. Mosquitos and most biting things are way worse in NJ than in Florida, in my experience; I almost never get mosquito bites or any other kind of bites in Fla.

Sitting on the balcony of my Boardwalk view view room, going home today sniff sniff

Some people, unfortunately, just attract the little 'buggers' :headache:

Have been camping frequently at Fort Wilderness for 40 years and have hardly seen any bugs, let alone been bitten. Also, have never packed or used bug spray. Guess we don't taste so good! LOL

Yes! These leave welts on me. I know better now but when I first started visiting here... Oooooh my gosh! I had welts for weeks!

My family swears by the bug repellant, glow-in-the-dark bracelets you can find in outdoors shops this time of year. We haven't had any trouble with no-see-ums thanks to these, and I usually only pay $2-3 for them. We wear them all summer at home thanks to West Nile Virus now.

I think certain types of perfumes and deodorants will also attract them!

The only time I was ever lunch for biting bugs at WDW was when I decided to wear perfume. It's like the flowery scent attracted them. Now, I leave my perfume at home!

You may not see-um but you sure do-feel-um!!!

I hear you, my hubby doesn't get bothered by them, but my bites turn into enormous welts. For me, the only thing that helps the itching and soreness is benedryl, which unfortunately makes me insanely sleepy :(

We just got back from Disney and I have multiple bites on both legs.

I picked up the first round doing archery at FW. [Loved this. Would do it again.] Then another at AKL checking out the savannah at dusk.

They made the last day of the trip miserable for me. I cant wear anything but flip flops because of the bites around my ankles. The swelling is slowly going down. And at least they don't itch anymore.

My husband and son were also with me and they did not get any bites. I was not wearing any scented deodorants or perfumes.

I looked around on our last day at MK and I didn't see another person with the bites on their legs.

This does not usually happen when we go to WDW and we otherwise had an amazing vacation. I just wish I had worn pants the whole trip. ;)

Just going to say that some people will attract bugs with what they wear or what they have eaten or whatever. Personally, I wouldn't bother with bug spray at Disney World as I've never gotten bitten in over 60 trips. Nor has my husband. And my son, with seven visits and his family (six visits for them) doesn't even bother with the spray.

So, having to have bug spray on your list of "must pack" items is a personal thing.

And I have to think - how does using bug spray react to using sun screen? I have no idea.

Yes welcome to FL unfortunately not all bug spray is going to keep all our lovely biting insects away I have had great luck with Avon Skin so Soft..works on my horse believe it or not (and on the dogs) with mosquitoes and biting flies

FW, AKL, & DAK perfect conditions for buggies

I will get eaten up by mosquitoes here at home and my husband and son will have nothing. My theory is that women maybe give off a different scent than men. That is my unqualified explanation. ;)

When I was at the beach several years ago (Siesta Key) I also had bites, but they were tiny. My friend said they might have been sand fleas. No one else had any bites. Lucky me.

By DH and I both got bitten by something on our trip this week.... and we live in Florida! Weird.... it's never happened before... yeah we're used to the regular mosquito bites.. but these were some mutant mosquitos i guess!
