We had thought about a quick, last minute trip this weekend - check in Friday, check out Monday, but there are NO resort rooms available! We’ve never looked At booking with this short of notice before. Is that typical, or is there something else going on this weekend (Nov 8-11)?

Ah...thank you. We typically go in the summer or October so I am not really familiar with other busy times.

I have a feeling that something is a little off with the WDW site. I started searching for 5 nights for the first week of December. Granted RotR opens then and it's Pop Warner week BUT when I started looking about a month ago not a single room was showing. Then slowly things would show up but mainly the $1500+/night ones. Eventually a couple of mods were there. I was searching all sorts of date combinations right down to 5 single night ressies. I found the first 4 nights I needed at ASMo and then a couple of days ago the final night I needed showed up. I even checked all the third party sites and contacted a couple of travel agents that I've used before. There was nothing out there which when it comes to third party booking it's understandable as they only have a block of rooms to sell and when they're gone, they're gone. Knowing that WDW has over 30k rooms I have a hard time believing that are totally booked. For my trip, today is the 30 day mark so I'm going to continue to watch to see if there are any cancellations.

Keep checking and search for separate nights. I just got separate nights at two different value resorts for this weekend. Things are popping up because people are canceling.

Believe it. It’s not the website. The first 2 weeks in December have been almost fully booked for months. Random rooms pop up once in awhile of course. I am going the 7-14th, booked in Sept ‘18 on a bounceback. I always keep checking resorts availability even after I book. By the late spring/ early summer, there were less & less rooms showing. There are many threads & posts about it. People keep speculating about glitches, cancellations, booking algorithms etc. It is a very popular time. Add to that, Thanksgiving is very late this year, so there is also 1 less week for people to travel to see the Christmas events.

I've been trying for your dates the last week and I can't find anything that's not crazy expensive.

I'm not sure why it's so surprising that a 3-day weekend with a federal holiday - and one that many schools extend to a 4/5 day weekend - is fully booked less than a week out?

Disney work to make that happen. Disney hotels tend to be booked at 90%+ year round. For a high demand weekend, the plus is going to be the landing point, near 100%.

Nope, the first couple of weeks of December have pretty much been booked solid since June.

We'll be there this weekend to take advantage of the school holiday. There's a reason that the fall discounts are not available for stays starting this Friday -- it's gonna be packed!

A family member just booked for first week of Dec. His choices were All Star Sports at $120/night or over $1,200 at Ak and Grand Floridian.
The CM pointed out that the deluxes included Club level food so would he like to book that?
Uhhh, he could buy alot of extra food for $1,000 per night!
He is a bit apprehensive about Sports but figured as long as it is clean , it will be okay!

I just found 3 nights for room only for Sports and it came to right at $600. I couldn't stomach paying full price so i'll keep my split stay between two Hyatt hotels with points. (AP Holder)

Even the Hyatt hotels around Disney are fully booked or you can't get 3 nights at the same hotel.

On Orbitz I see Dolphin at $421/night (!!!), or TownePlace Suites Flamingo Crossing $234....

I'll be there the same time. I booked back in February.

Yeah it's a holiday weekend (though schools in South Carolina are not off) but honestly you're hard pressed to find availability online for weekends that short notice anymore regardless. Just a quick search for the following two weekends (which are just normal, non-holiday weekends) brings up almost nothing.

I'd call rather than use the website as you might find some availability that isn't showing up online.

Also, try some of the Hotel Blvd "partner" hotels. You still get most of the same perks as regular on-site guests, they are often cheaper, and I'm seeing availability for a lot of those through sites like Expedia.

Thank you all for your replies. The schools around me are not off for Veterans Day, so that wasn't even on my radar. I think if this is going to be a super busy weekend, we would be better off waiting for another time, since we have no dining reservations or fast passes either! Bummer though! I liked the idea of a spur-of-the-moment trip!!

we are booked for 5 nights starting next week Saturday the 16th. We considered adding a one night room only reservation for the 15th but looked last week and it was slim pickings. About 3 years ago we decided on a last minute trip around the same time frame about 3 weeks out and the Coronado was are only option.
